Job Description
As the Localization Program Manager you’ll serve as a member of the Localization team handling the localization and transcreation of Duolingo’s user interface, onboarding, newsletter and marketing content for a global audience of users who speak more than 22 languages!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage end-to-end localization/transcreation program(s), ensuring smooth and scalable work with a team of contractors and vendors.
- Collaborate across internal teams (engineering, product, design) to ensure localization/transcreation best practices are upheld to minimize downstream issues and decrease cost and time-to-market for the localized versions.
- Triage, vet and route international bugs to stakeholders: review, prioritize, track progress and extrapolate product insights of issues that affect international content relevancy, quality, and functionality.
- Document localization workflows and identify gaps or inefficiencies in project management tools and processes within and between teams and suggest improvements.
- Improve and optimize existing processes and workflows to help scale our courses and content
- Work with Engineers, PMs and Designers and A/B test new processes and solutions to improve the quality of Duolingo’s localized content.
- Develop thorough plans and facilitate timelines: identify risks, solve for dependencies, mitigate roadblocks, and ensure timely and smooth project launches
- Help hire and onboard contractors to ensure consistently exceptional content
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
- English fluency and impeccable communication skills, both written and verbal with experience interacting with senior leadership and product managers in a fast paced environment.
- Proven success and record of leading project management efforts for customer-facing content for websites, web apps, mobile apps, marketing and multimedia.
- Ability to build trusting and productive relationships across cultural and geographic lines.
- Meticulous attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
- Strong technical skills. Competent with project management tools (JIRA, Asana or equivalent).
- Fluency in Google docs and spreadsheets, and demonstrated ability to learn a complex system of other tools.
- Strong interest in Duolingo and its mission.
- Ability to work full time from our offices in Pittsburgh, PA.
EXCEPTIONAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
- 3 to 5 years of project management experience leading product localization and translation strategy in a digital content environment with an emphasis on complex technical and translation projects involving cross-functional teams and multiple stakehol ders.
- Experience building and scaling processes from the ground up.
- Working knowledge in one or more of Spanish, French, Portuguese or German.
- Being a Duolingo user is a big plus!
- Understanding of CMS technology and Translation Management Systems.
