Systems Engineer for the On-Orbit Operations Support Team supporting the Global Positioning System (GPS) IIA and IIF satellite constellations with primary responsibility as a Mission Planner with secondary responsibilities for the IIF Satellite Control Processor (SCP) and associated software.This position is located at Schriever AFB, Colorado.Position Responsibilities:
  • Specific emphasis is on using knowledge and experience with Orbital Mechanics to plan varying aspects of the IIA and IIF missions, from station-keeping maneuvers, anomaly recovery through vehicle disposals.
  • Secondary responsibilities deal with the development and/or review of SCP commanding requests, participating in SCP commanding activities, performing subsystem trending and performance analysis and on-call support for anomaly resolution.
  • Additional roles and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
    • Responding to customer request for information/clarification on Mission Planning and the SCP, evaluating customer and operational needs to create or modify Orbital Operations Handbook procedures or operational procedures
    • Supporting customer during special support requests (i.e. commanding verification and telemetry/performance monitoring).

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • Experience as a Mission Planner/Orbital Analyst planning and executing station-keeping maneuvers, anomaly recovery and disposal operations.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with satellite on-board processors and associated flight software.
  • Prefer an engineering degree with emphasis on orbital mechanics, satellite anomaly recovery and root cause corrective action.
Typical Education / Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
