The Retail Copywriter is responsible for supporting West Elm's customer-facing copy and messaging for store signage, hangtags, packaging, and product naming. You're a are skilled creative writer who excels in limited word count, a proofer who has outstanding following-up and a collaborator who thrives in fast-paced environments. You're a self-starter who stays on top of due dates, works cross-functionally and a stickler for details (while still seeing the big picture). You'll work closely with the Product Information, Design, and Merchant teams and report to the Senior Manager of Product Information on the Editorial team. If you are a wordsmith, enjoy managing content across channels, agile in responding to last-minute changes and can juggle multiple projects simultaneously, then this is the job for you. (A love of furniture + home goods helps, too.)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Write compelling Brand Packaging copy that articulates the best product stories.
* Work directly with merchants and sourcing to acquire all the needed PI for Packaging content.
* Write seasonal store signage for Brand including, but not limited to, product callouts, promotional messaging, editorial signage, new store openings, special events, collaborations + partnerships, registry and more as it relates to seasonal theme/s and evergreen messaging.
* Write signage for Global (UK + AUS), working with the Global merchants and the Global Visual team.
* Write store product hangtag copy.
* Write Store Collection cards.
* Ensure accuracy and consistency for product attributes.
* Name products across all categories for Brand, West Elm WORK, and B2B per season.
* Create a master list for product naming that is consistently updated.
* Work with Legal team to approve product naming.
* Work closely with Content and PI team to ensure seasonal messaging is leveraged across each channel.
* Support PI team with writing seasonal PIP copy.
* Manage and incorporate all final edits and changes from cross-functional teams.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS:
* 2-3 years of experience in copywriting in a retail or lifestyle environment.
* Bachelor's degree in language arts, business, marketing, journalism or other related field.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Exceptional organizational and time management skills
* Knows how to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects with the highest degree of accuracy.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully as part of a cross-functional team.
* Must possess self-drive, with the talent to creatively resolve issues and offer solutions.
* Technical aptitude and the capability to learn company systems, with high proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of basic HTML and/or other web programs is a plus.
