The Project Manager in Pediatric Psychosocial Oncology (PPO) in the Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care (POPC) is responsible for setting timelines, evolving effective communication, and implementing complex projects directed by PPO, including, but not limited to, the Psychosocial Assessment Tool (PAT) Screening project and parent group programs. Reporting to the Division Chief of Pediatric Psychosocial Oncology and the Program Administrator, the Project Manager is responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of Pediatric screening, group programs and ongoing research projects. PAT Screening is an initiative to identify and respond to psychosocial distress and concrete and unmet needs in Dana Farber Boston Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (DFBCCBDC) pediatric oncology patient population.

Responsibilities

The person in this role will support interdisciplinary initiatives tied to PPO initiatives, exercising considerable initiative and independence. This will include responsibility for direct planning activities such as developing project charters, and tracking progress of the efforts to assure deadline compliance. S/he may draft and implement procedures and policies relating to the projects. This role will also have daily interaction with staff, management, and others to work on specific projects and may be asked to serve as a resource for the collection and analysis of data, as well as maintenance of OHRS protocols.

The Project Manager will:

  • Assess and set project timelines; track progress of the efforts to assure deadline compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Pediatric Screening workgroup to determine triage algorithm, technology solutions and increase stakeholder support for screening.
  • Ensure projects are compliant with national distress screening mandates, including those of the American College of Surgeons, Institute of Medicine, National Comprehensive Cancer Network, and Quality Oncology Practice Initiative, and Pediatric Standards of Psychosocial Care.
  • Work closely with Children’s Hospital/ Powerchart Information Technology staff to ensure programming requirements of Screening.
  • Engage key stakeholders to develop content and build project support, including DFBCCBDC and POPC leadership, oncology providers, patients and families, Powerchart, psychosocial clinicians, and resource content owners.
  • Provide education and training to clinical staff and medical providers for operation and utilization of the distress screening questionnaire, patient summary report responses, and triage/referral methods.
  • Collect, synthesize and implement screening feedback from patients, caregivers, providers and staff.
  • Facilitate the development of patient education materials with content experts. Identify/provide support for distribution of materials.
  • Coordinate parent group programming, including scheduling, communications/ advertising and quality improvement for psychoeducational groups for parents of children being treated in the DFBCCBDC.
  • Gather data on participation and feedback from parents regarding the program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree or healthcare experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of project coordination or related experience is required.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills and experience.
