Platform Support Engineer

Platform Support Engineers create a bridge between development and operations by applying a software engineering mindset to system administration topics. The Platform Engineer is tasked to make the Enterprise Workload Automation Platform more reliable, efficient, and scalable.

What do they do?

As a Platform Support Engineer, you will be an integral member of a dynamic team continuously improving our Enterprise Automation platform. Thinking outside the normal ‘support’ mindset to automate and innovate ‘all-the-things’ in support of our rapidly expanding product portfolio.

Using engineers to perform work that was historically done by an operations team, allowing us to re-think how we fundamentally support and evolve our platforms. With this mindset, engineers will have the freedom to innovate, develop and implement automation to improve our systems and supportability.

Primary responsibilities

  • Rehydration / Deployment of AROW Platform (CA Automic) in an active-standby environment
  • Ownership and maintenance of the platform (handling any well managed requests, pro-actively monitoring resources like disk space, etc)
  • Support and on-call for clusters in all environments (Dev, QA, Prod)
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to platforms and/or systems upstream and downstream
  • Solving problems using a software mindset, through creation of tools and monitoring
  • Ensure the Availability & Resiliency of the Enterprise Automation platform. Assess the reliability risk of the systems and drive improvements in the prevention, detection, and remediation of potential risk.
  • Collaborate with other DevOps team members, and coordinate with engineering and business teams.
  • Update and enhance monitoring / alerting (for conditions such as application-errors, high memory usage) and log aggregation approaches (to quickly access logs for troubleshooting or generate reports for trend analysis) to proactively notify engineering and business stakeholders using tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, Datadog and PagerDuty.
  • Maintain build pipelines to support automated testing and deployments using tools including Jenkins.
  • Provide on-call support and troubleshooting assistance with ability to navigate through the automation platform with speed and accuracy
  • Clearly document and diagram deployment-specific aspects of architectures and environments, working closely with Software Engineers, and others in DevOps.
  • Continuous improvement of tools, testing and deployment strategies using software to solve complex problems

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 1 year of experience in production support
  • At least 1 year of experience in Cloud
  • At least 1 year of experience in CA Automic Product
  • At least 1 year of experience in Python, PowerShell, or Bash scripting
  • At least 1 year of experience in CICD experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 years working in agile environment
  • At least 1 year of experience in code management (Github or SVN)
  • At least 1 year of experience in Chef, Ansible, or Puppet
  • At least 1 year of experience in Java and Kubernetes Operations
  • At least 1 year of experience in API support or creation experience
  • AWS Certification
