We believe that great design is far more than simply a beautiful interface, but rather extends into the design of the service and the business itself. Designers at Tradesy aren't just pixel pushers--- design is an integral part of how we make product decisions. As the Director of Design at Tradesy, you will serve as creative director across all design touch-points and lead our design team in designing, validating, and executing on design-led solutions to complex marketplace problems. As a hands-on manager, you’ll drive innovative, user-centered design solutions. You will identify new opportunities to add value to the business, while aligning with stated objectives. You’ll navigate the entire design stack from research, to interface design, to marketing and branding, to prototyping and user testing. At the same time, you’ll focus on design leadership --- mentoring and growing members of the team, fostering a healthy culture of collaboration and feedback, and multiplying the talents of individual team members through thoughtful critiques and regular design reviews. The ideal candidate for this position is adept at high-level, systems thinking, both in terms of products and people, but also obsesses over the details that take a product from good, to great, to exceptional. You Will:
- Own the Tradesy brand and visual language.
- Focus relentlessly on solving problems for our users.
- Spearhead new creative and strategic thinking; draw from a broad methodological toolkit.
- Lead strategic projects that affect multiple product teams and focus the efforts of the Design Team on what matters most based on larger business objectives.
- Establish a philosophy and mindset for how the Design Team approaches its work, while mentoring and raising the performance of the team.
- Foster an environment of feedback and continual improvement through design reviews and thoughtful critique.
- Set the tone and shape the culture of the Design Team while evangelizing design across the organization.
You Have:
- 5+ years of experience in design, including 3+ years of design leadership
- The ability to establish and articulate a design strategy that ties back to the overall goals of the business.
- An approach to framing and solving hard problems, and a rich understanding of a range of design tools and methods.
- The ability to confidently drive innovative efforts that uncover new value with end-to-end experiences.
- Rigor. You are adamant about ensuring design quality while fulfilling business objectives and goals.
- An extensive portfolio of excellent design work, showcasing your proven track record of shipping successful, polished products.
- A strong point of view on how to build a great design team.
- Proven experience managing a high-functioning design team.
