About the role

The emergence of big data is creating opportunities to develop platforms that turn big data into big insights with tremendous value. The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for leading the development activities related to data ingestion, transformation and the creation of data models and extracts within a Hadoop platform, specifically supporting our Clinical organization on our Data & Reporting Transformation and ongoing Clinical Study Enablement. This role will work in a Product Team structure that will own the end to end Clinical Data & Reporting Product, including new and existing capabilities.

Your responsibilities:

• Transform Clinical Data & Reporting by implementing business needs in Hadoop Enterprise Data Hub (EDH)
• Ongoing technical ownership of Clinical reporting capabilities built in EDH
• Accountable for technical issue resolution including diagnosis of problem, recommendations for workarounds, and defect correction
• Develop and maintain a strong relationship with business partners and IT partners
• Provides production support by proactively monitoring applications and seeking to improve application availability, quality, and performance by ensuring achievement of Service Level Agreements (SLA) and participating in required on-call support, as needed
• Understand customer’s business implications and incorporate understanding into technical and process improvement recommendations
• Create and maintains system documentation according to the IT methodology (proposals, designs, test specifications, and other deliverables as necessary) for new and existing applications
• Researches and applies new technologies, development techniques and best practices by leveraging experience, industry contacts, seminars, and books.

What we're looking for:

Basic Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field required
• 7+ years of related experience
• Development experience in Java, Scala and Python
• Hands-on experience authoring SQL code
• Experience working with software development tools (e.g. Eclipse, Git, JIRA)
• Experience working with version control tools (e.g. SVN, GitHub, CVS)
• Experience with Restful API
• Basic Unix skillsets including scripting
• Experience with Apache Hadoop stack (HDFS, Sqoop, Yarn, Hive, Pig, HBASE)
• Experience with multiple additional Big Data toolsets from the following list (Streamsets, Spark, Kudo, Hive, Impala
• Experience working in an Agile development environment
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills including oral, written, and listening skills
• Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and analytical skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced, self-directed, action-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Test Driven Development(TDD) and continuous integration
• Experience in life science industry
