Job summary

The Red Hat Products and Technologies (PnT) Planning and Analytics team is looking for a Data Scientist Intern to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will design, develop, and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse big data sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for customer services and solutions enhancement. You’ll interact with product and marketing teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. You’ll develop and code software programs, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. As a Data Scientist Intern, you will identify meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources and communicate them to product, service, and business managers.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Analyze high-volume, unstructured data sources to build new structured models for customer interactions and product consumption
  • Develop machine learning (ML), data mining, and statistical techniques and algorithms to create new scalable solutions for business problems by analysis of large amounts of data
  • Create visualizations of data for internal and external consumption
  • Collaborate with other developers and analysts across teams and technologies on cross-team projects

Required skills

  • Experience creating predictive models to help businesses identify and understand key customer behaviors
  • Experience using open source statistical computing toolkits like R, Apache Mahout, and scikit-learn
  • Experience with machine learning techniques
  • Data manipulation using R and Python
  • Experience with analytical tools like SAP BusinessObjects (BOBJ) and SAS
  • Experience communicating key insights and findings to business stakeholders
  • Experience with statistics, economics, or other relevant applied mathematics discipline
  • Master’s degree in data science, mathematics, computer science, or a related quantitative field
