Job Description

Pivotal’s story VIDEO

As a recognised leader in disciplined agile and lean software development practices, Pivotal combines the Silicon Valley state of mind, modern approach, and infrastructure with organisations’ core expertise and values. Our cloud-native platform and suite of data tools drive software innovation for many of the world’s most admired brands, helping enterprises move at start-up speeds and with greater business agility. We optimise for change and teach next-generation developers to create and build new solutions, and are committed to open source and open standards.

Our methodology is about evolving, in both development and innovation, and our culture is empowering. Our 2,000+ employees across offices worldwide subscribe to an ethos of kindness. We make a point to bring empathy to each and every engagement, and are guided by a purposeful mission—to transform how the world builds software.

You

You are an experienced Lean Startup practitioner, who has worked in a hands on product role delivering modern software into production. You are inspired by the opportunity to help customers modernise their in-house software development capabilities.

You bring a balanced, holistic and flexible mindset to product development. We share the overall success of the product with our clients. This means that we don’t just help our clients ship features, or define and validate product direction. We do what needs to be done to ensure that both the product and the engagement are successful.

You are comfortable with ambiguity. We work in an iterative and incremental way, balancing many different inputs and constantly making trade-offs. This requires us to be comfortable moving forward with imperfect information.

Us

We are taking lean into the core of our customers businesses, modernising their software products leveraging the best of lean, devops and agile, alongside our platform and data products. We work alongside our clients to unlock the full potential of their teams, help transform their legacy portfolio to cloud-native in order to incrementally reduce time to market, cost, operational inefficiencies while maintaining security, resilience and compliance.

Your Day

We pair with our client PMs, all day, every day because we know it delivers remarkable results. We practice and teach an approach to product management that is applicable across industries and organisations, so you'll experience all types of teams, industries and products. And we believe in working at a sustainable pace – you'll typically work hard for 8 hours each day, but then you're off work to relax, recharge and refocus.

You will work both at a strategic, long term level, collaborating with senior customer stakeholders. You will also work at a team level with developers and designers in figuring out what to work on next, and writing and accepting user stories. You will bring clarity where there is uncertainty, manage risk and continuously deliver value. You can define experiments, measure anything and use data to inform decisions.

You will coach and enable product delivery teams on modern development techniques such as Lean Startup, product management, user centered design, pair programming, continuous integration/continuous deployment and test-driven development. You’ll work closely with the Pivotal account team to develop strong relationships with customer and partner stakeholders in order to promote the wins and successes of their value creating products and product development organisations. Ultimately, you will become an agent of change within customer and partner organisations.

You’ll work with your team onsite or at a Pivotal location, and regular travel across Europe is an expectation of the role. When traveling, we work on a 5-4-3 configuration: 5 days working with a customer, 4 days at the customer site, and 3 nights away from home. Typically our team will travel Monday morning to start work at lunch time, and leave Thursday afternoon to be home by the evening.

Desired Skills / Experiences

  • Product Management experience in large scale projects, ideally including migrating custom software to the cloud
  • Must speak fluent English/ German
  • Experience working in an Agile environment and Lean startup methodology
  • Experience working directly with clients, leading engagements, and mentoring engineers
  • Skilled at defining and prioritising product features
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to teach others
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and navigate complex decision making
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and build consensus between people who disagree
  • Ability to collaborate well with engineers, designers, and clients
