Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, Neurosurgery - Full-Time - Ascension Dell Seton Medical Center - Austin, TX

What You Will Do

PA will be working 1:1 with a neurosurgeon. Requirements include rounding on inpatients, assisting in surgery, and seeing patients in in clinic. Good communication skills and ability to work/adapt in a busy neurosurgical practice. Neurosurgery experience required. Surgical first assisting experience required. Main site of practice will be Dell Seton Medical Center-UT, but will also practice at other sites within Seton as needed by physician. Currently this is a Mon-Fri position, no call but may require weekends or taking call in the future. Holidays required in coordination with other APP team members. Occasional overtime, but will be compensated.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain patient history and perform assessment via observation, interview and examination. Order, perform and interpret diagnostic studies. Perform preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.
  • Provide direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Counsel and educate patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
  • Document delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.

What You Will Need

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):
    • Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing
    • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing
    • Acute Care Certification or Clinical Nurse Specialist with acute care training/educational component required
  • Preferred Credential(s):
    • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).
    • Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Education:

  • Master's degree of Nursing required

Work Experience:

  • Not accepting applications for new graduates
  • 2 years neurosurgery experience needed
  • Surgical first assist experience needed
