DescriptionThe Senior Manager of Plastics Engineering will lead a high-energy global plastics engineering team supporting manufacturing of diagnostic medical device hardware and consumables. Primary tasks include driving team enablement and development and setting team strategy to facilitate completion of projects that deliver value to the company, facilitate growth, and meet cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
- Key Responsibilities
- The Senior Manager will lead a multi-disciplinary team and partner with peers, leveraging best practices and resources across the BEC Dx global network, to drive consistent YoY improvement. Primary focus will be related to new product introduction, on time delivery, cost reduction, quality improvement, and supply continuity risk mitigation. This leader will assure team and individual development, including competence and skillset mapping, while participating in setting team strategy. This role will also focus on improving business processes and growing systems, including standardized metrics and Visual Daily Management, to ensure successful project completion. Specific responsibilities include:
- Set department strategy, vision, and aligned objectives with a focus on innovation
- Manage priorities and responses to needs for incoming sustaining engineering support of global plastics manufacturing equipment and tooling assets
- Identify and guide department level countermeasures to close performance gaps
- Build and maintain partnership with peers, departments, and sites to achieve company objectives.
- Strong partnership with Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Quality to manage existing global supply base.
- Assure appropriate use of the Danaher Business System (DBS) throughout the department and across projects and team initiatives
- Set and oversee department budgets including expense, resources, and capital
- Interact with senior leadership to communicate department performance toward aligned objectives, action plans, and countermeasures
- Adhere to established policies and procedures
- Establish, improve, and maintain tooling and automation asset performance by driving processes and systems to ensure strong process capability & OEE
- Provide SME input for molded part DFM reviews and develop/improve manufacturing processes for molding, assembly, and automation equipment
- Establish criteria and process to optimize raw materials selection and manufacturing work cell design to achieve high product quality at low total life cycle cost
- Oversee failure investigations utilizing sound problem solving techniques and statistical methods as needed to identify root cause and enact countermeasures
- Author and review test protocols and conduct verification and validation activities as needed to meet ISO and FDA medical device regulation requirements
- Maintain compliance with applicable standards & regulations, including internal procedures, ISO, and FDA Medical Device standards
Job Requirements Qualifications- B.S. Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering Technology, Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent plus 14+ years engineering experience focused on plastics and injection molding or M.S. degree in related engineering field a plus 12+ years of experience and 4+ years of managing people. Knowledge of polymer materials, plastic product design for manufacturing (DFM), injection molding process development, and tooling engineering required. Ability and willingness to travel to local, domestic, and international locations approximately 25%.
- Expertise in using Moldflow®, Minitab, Solidworks, and scientific process development techniques for injection molding highly desirable. Experience working with precision metrology equipment, automated SPC systems, PLC’s, cavity pressure transducers, MIM, and castings also desirable in the selection process.
