The Regional Imaging Support Engineer will combine a working knowledge of general information technologies and imaging information systems principles in the installation, support and maintenance of enterprise imaging information systems. The position serves as a technical leader and technical problem escalation resource for Imaging Application Administrators. The Regional Imaging Support Engineer may serve as a team member or technical subject matter expert in the development of medical imaging solutions. This position represents the highest of four levels of application support expertise within the Medical Imaging Technology and Informatics Department.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of DICOM and HL7 standards. Ability to perform in depth troubleshooting of DICOM and HL7 communication issues including interpretation of log files and network trace files. Familiarity with common DICOM and HL7 tools and toolkits.

  • Advanced understanding of medical imaging modalities, clinical operations and clinical terminologies.

  • Demonstrated understanding of how various general information technologies combine and interact to realize large clinical information systems.

  • Working knowledge sufficient for the installation, maintenance, support and troubleshooting of:

  • Advanced desktop operating system knowledge

  • Desktop computer and display hardware configuration and calibration

  • Network interfaces and protocols

  • System security applications

  • System monitoring

  • Database systems

  • Enterprise directory systems

  • Shell scripting

  • Common server operating systems

  • Server hardware and storage

  • Knowledge of privacy and security standards

  • In addition to resolving common imaging application support issues, act as a technical escalation point for difficult or uncommon support matters.

  • Coordinate and resolve advanced technical service problems with vendors and/or KPIT resources

  • Assist in training and technical skills development of Imaging Application Administrators and other staff

  • Provide ongoing application functionality instruction to end-users as necessary

  • Install, configure, maintain and support front-end medical imaging applications and hardware

  • Install, configure, maintain and support back-end enterprise medical imaging infrastructure and hardware

  • Ensure the integrity of patient records and data within medical imaging applications

  • Support hardware and application replacement and upgrade activities

  • Document support activities in a complete and timely manner

  • Demonstrate ownership of problems and a commitment to problem resolution

  • Serve as a team member or technical subject matter expert in the development of medical imaging solutions.

  • Ability to utilize common administrative tools and techniques related to these areas.

  • Familiarity with basic information technology and informatics best-practices related to these areas.

  • Ability to apply critical thought, advanced technical skill and efficient trouble shooting methods to quickly triage and resolve issues related to a broad array of medical imaging applications and infrastructure.

  • Assist Imaging Application Administrator Levels I, II, III.

  • Can be located in a specific medical area or at a regional facility.

  • Some travel required.

  • Expected to provide after-hours support on a rotating, scheduled basis.

  • Basic Qualifications: Experience
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience providing comprehensive dedicated support of multi-tiered medical applications, including database, network, client/server and user management related activities.
  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology or related field, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • License, Certification, Registration
  • American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII) Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) designation required
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) - must have two of the following:
  • Windows Server (latest two versions)
  • Windows (latest version)
  • SQL Server (latest two versions)
  • SQL Database Administration (latest two versions)
  • Must have one of the following:
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Linux+
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environment, involving multiple interrelated applications.
  • Strong skills required in critical thinking and analysis, problem solving, troubleshooting, verbal and written communications, and interpersonal interactions (e.g. partnering, conflict management, consulting, etc.).
  • Ability to adjust style and communications, as necessary, to customers with a variety of levels and technical knowledge, including leaders, clinicians, staff and other support personnel.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification and/or experience with VMWare
  • HL7 Certification and/or Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR)
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with VR and/or 3D
  • Experience with AI and/or Machine Language

  • Notes:
  • This position will be tier 3 support for Los Angeles, Panorama City, West Los Angles, and Woodland Hills Service Areas.
