The Communications team is responsible for telling the Airbnb story around the world. Whether it's speaking to media and bloggers, hosts and guests, industry commentators, thought leaders of the wider community and internal stakeholders in the company. The Communications Manager, Corporate & Public Affairs, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean will be responsible for leading Airbnb’s corporate and policy communications strategy for Mexico and the CCA region, working together with the broader Comms, Policy and Legal teams to maintain the company’s position with relevant stakeholders, acting as the company’s voice on a range of topics including government regulation, taxes and legal matters among others.

You must be comfortable and confident in working directly with journalists; managing media inquiries on deadline and helping design and deliver communications plans supporting policy and brand objectives. We are looking for an effective and creative communicator who has the ability to explain complex ideas in simple ways.

This full-time role will be based in Mexico City and may require travel to countries part of the CCA region. The role will report to the Communications Lead, Mexico/Spanish-Speaking LATAM also based in Mexico City.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and support to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean policy managers and policy team on all communications matters
  • Develop a clear and thorough communications plan and cadence for major markets across Mexico and the CCA region on an as-needed basis
  • Identify proactive press opportunities in support of legislative and policy priorities (i.e. moving a bill forward, demonstrating the impact of a tax agreement, outlining our policy positions)
  • Manage all aspects of reactive press requests and ensure utilization of all tools available (data, industry research, host stories, etc.) to defend Airbnb’s community and brand
  • Develop written materials (story pitches, messaging guidelines, Q&As, briefs, presentations, speeches, etc.) and manage approval process with Regional Public Affairs Lead
  • Identify opportunities for op-eds by Airbnb principals and third-party allies
  • Help prepare Airbnb spokespeople (Campaign Managers, Country Managers, Airbnb Executives, etc.) for public speaking engagements, media interviews, etc. in Mexico and the CCA region
  • Develop and manage relationships with key reporters in market
  • Work with other members of the Public Affairs and Public Relations teams for feedback and guidance on best strategies in specific markets and situations
  • Identify proactive press opportunities and drive national/global announcements, in support of policy, corporate and consumer communications goals
  • Identify and drive executive communications opportunities when appropriate, relevant and serve as primary POC with Exec Comms and collaborate on tick-tock, briefing materials, logistics, etc. [in region]

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 6+ years of Public Relations/Public Affairs experience, either working in an agency or in-house
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Good knowledge of Mexico public policy matters - more specifically relating to housing, technology, or the sharing economy. Knowledge of Latin American policy matters is a plus
  • Proven-track record working on communications initiatives involving policy matters
  • Experience working with a tech company and/or consumer/travel brand is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi-functional leads in a matrix organization
  • Excellent writing skills with samples to share
  • Passion for Airbnb and the mission of the company
  • Experience working on projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal communications and interpersonal skills
  • Maintaining enthusiasm and calm demeanor in stressful situations
