About you We are seeking a Financial Analyst for our FP&A team based in Waterloo to provide financial planning, analysis, and decision support to the International business unit at Shopify. This is a one year contract with the possibility of turning into a full-time permanent role. We are looking for someone who enjoys big challenges and can apply their financial expertise and guidance to support the business. Your ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, take their words and transform them into numbers is something you take pride in.

You'll be working on things like:

    • Forecasting and planning
    • Month end GL reconciliation, accruals & variance analysis
    • Partnering with the business, to help them achieve their objectives and longer term strategy
    • Providing financial guidance to help form the International team’s strategies
    • Helping the broader International team with various ad hoc financial support

You'll need to have:

    • A bachelor's degree in finance or accounting and a CPA designation (or on the verge of obtaining it).
    • Strong financial modelling skillset (advanced Microsoft Excel skills, creating standard reports and forecasting templates)
    • Experience in streamlining reporting and forecasting processes
    • Experience with tracking and managing budgets
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
    • Proven attention to detail, and an ability to work independently

Bonus points if you have:

    • Experience with subscription based business models
    • Experience writing and modifying SQL queries
