Gorgonzola hosts Navigations Air Systems (NAS) domain. The activity of NAS domain: avionics, navigation and radar systems for civil air traffic and technologies supporting the activities of civilian and military pilots, ATC controllers and technicians of several airlines, air traffic control agencies and Air Force around the world. Italy is the Group’s Competence center for the design, production and delivery of Navigation Aids products and Competence Centre for the delivery of non-Radar Surveillance Products.

Thales people architect solutions that enable two-thirds of planes to take off and land safely. Our Ground Navigation portfolio offers a complete range of products which includes the latest generation of ILS, DME, VOR and TACAN systems.

With more than 7,000 Navigation aids and landing systems installed worldwide in 172 countries, we are leading the Navaids market.

The second product line of NAS is Non Radar Surveillance (NRS) with an installed base of more than 2.200 ADS-B and MLAT Groundstations.

Engineering Management Group Leader (m/f/d) (Ref.Nr. R0060287)

The Engineering Management Group Leader plays a key role in the engineering policy by defining & updating the standard Process, Practices and Tools to be deployed across NAS Engineering department on all bids, products and projects with the following key objectives:

  • To master Engineering developments,
  • To improve Engineering competitiveness

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and update the standard Process, Practices and Tools to be deployed across NAS Engineering department on all bids, products and projects, monitoring the deployment of practices and tools across NAS Engineering department
  • Plan and monitor the tailoring of PP&T and its deployment on Work Package in relation with the SEM
  • Capture the needs (evolution or addition) on practices & tools (Training, coaching and license), update the plan and monitor their deployment
  • Identify the Engineering Environment (E2) Budget and make sure that it is taken into account in the MYB exercise
  • Report the progress on its E2 deployment plan to either BL E2M and Country E2M, according to the Engineering Governance Deployment
  • Contribute to the E2 community by sharing experience or support, connecting each other’s, exchanging ideas and debating on issues,,,
  • Request adequate support, training and coaching to GroupE2 support team (support to support)
  • The Engineering Management Group leader acts as BL Process Owner for NAS and as Engineering Environment Manager for NAS activities.
  • Concerning the IT infrastructure and tools:
    • Ensure the Project Management and the Design Authority of the deployment of the Engineering Environment,
    • Ensure the IS/IT organization delivers the appropriate infrastructure and services in line with the engineering need
  • Concerning processes & practices:
    • Providing support for the deployment of engineering processes and practices, assisting OPs in the adjustment of the engineering tooled-up practices (eTUP), and organizing the sharing of 'best practices',
    • Support the heads of discipline to assure, that processes and practices are implemented in a standardized way, that support means and tools are reliable, and that people are trained at the expected level of skill
  • Concerning TIMS: conducting and / or checking the regular maturity assessments of the Engineering organization in relation with the Quality Department in accordance with the TIMS governance of the Group,
  • Concerning Lean & Agile: accelerate and support the deployment of 'Lean Engineering' and 'Agile' practices

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years’ experience or Master’s degree in field with 5+ years’ experience a technical domain, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of and experience in assessment, performance monitoring and measurement and analysis.
  • General knowledge of system and hardware/software design, development, installation and testing-Understanding of solutions and software development principles ‘and lifecycles
  • Proven track record engaging and influencing strong stakeholders
  • Interpersonal skills – the ability to communicate effectively with peers and act proactively within a team environment
  • Experience of working within a safety environment in a aeronautic/transportation or similar industry
  • Excellent decision and problem solving skills
  • English fluent is a must
  • Ability to speak additional languages as Italian, German or French is a benefit
  • The role will require travel for approximately 30% of the time
