Senior Project Manager
PMO Team | Santa Clara, CA Headquarters

Role: Senior Project Manager
As a Project Manager, you will naturally be bringing order from chaos through stellar communication, facilitation and problem solving. This role will support Growth and Operations for all of Chegg’s learning businesses: Required Materials (textbooks), Chegg Study, Tutors, Chegg Prep, Writing Tools, and Math Solvers. As a leader, you will drive stakeholders to a common goal, speaking the languages of business, product management, and engineering as the situation warrants. You will be a close partner to the business and product leadership of the initiatives you drive, and you will provide the clearest lens on the issues at hand. Your sense of absolute ownership of an initiative and your eye for detail will be what drives the team to success.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple large prject with multiple tracks. Drives the coordinated management of large, complex programs to achieve specific business goals.
  • Ensures the timely delivery of business value and the efficient use of organizational resources.
  • Partners with Business and Technology leadership to establish a solid understanding of the vision, purpose and expected business benefits of a program.
  • Manages the program-level decomposition of work across multiple delivery teams. Works across organizational boundaries to define program interdependencies and release plans.
  • Partners closely with Product Owners and Product Development teams to execute and deliver programs aligning to product vision and program goals, objectives, and timelines. Makes sure appropriate domain resources are engaged. Help define creative solutions to address resourcing challenges.
  • Facilitates executive-level escalations and program-level change management.
  • Monitors health of program delivery. Tracks program-level status, risks, issues, and dependencies. Proactively addresses delivery team impediments. Resolves program-level roadblocks to enable successful program execution.
  • Manages program-level communications ensuring stakeholders are informed of roadmap changes, release plans, and delivery status.
  • Experienced professional with the ability to frame concepts for C-Staff communications. Leads program-level reviews with delivery teams, stakeholders, and executive management as required.
  • Facilitates program retrospectives to identify improvement opportunities. Evangelizes and integrates desired changes to enable continuous improvement.
  • Leads by example. Covers key management roles as needed to ensure the success of program delivery efforts.
  • Self-directed (directing cross-functional teams and C-Staff)
  • Evangelizes the PMO culture and brings a high degree of energy to the role
  • Lives and breathes a proactive delivery mindset, role-filling as necessary to meet program goals

Required Experience, Skills or Abilities

  • Extensive experience leading global, multi-disciplinary teams in fast-paced, change-intensive environments
  • Extensive knowledge of project and program management processes, tools, templates, and management techniques
  • Extensive knowledge of multiple software product development methodologies, including in-depth knowledge of agile delivery practices
  • Exceptional problem solving and negotiation skills, with the ability to work across organizational boundaries to drive closure of complex delivery challenges
  • Take responsibility for release schedules and milestones, keeping up a high velocity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong business acumen and technical background, with the ability to quickly understand and communicate technical concepts and challenges across a wide range of audiences
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the professional confidence and credibility to effectively engage and interact with senior and executive management
  • Comfortable hosting senior level leaders and providing status/program updates
  • Ability to craft a compelling message and tailor it for a given audience.
  • Ability to mix technical acumen with simple, everyday language to deliver a story that is memorable and useful.
  • Comfortable talking about technical matters with business people and business matters with technical people.
  • Able to express complex concepts in plain language to reach broader audiences
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities, meet aggressive deadlines
  • Manage program/project schedules and associated dependencies, identify possible issues/risks/actions and clearly work with key stakeholders to mitigate for them.
  • Drive issues to logical closure.
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to manage through times of uncertainty and change
  • Proven past record of working with high performing teams

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent training or work experience.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of related industry experience managing moderately-sized projects and programs from start to finish within highly complex operating environments.
  • You can operate effectively in a high demand, rapidly shifting / fluid environment.
  • You have a proven track record of on time and high-quality project delivery
  • You are comfortable communicating at all levels of an organization from executives to project teams
