Job Description
Nike Government & Public Affairs (GPA) is looking for a
Government & Public Affairs Director to be based in Mexico City to primarily support Nike business development in Mexico and the secondarily in Central America. The position will be reporting to the Senior Director, Government & Public Affairs-SoCo/Mexico with a dotted line reporting relationship to the VP/GM Nike Mexico and Global GPA leadership. The key responsibilities of the position will be to build relationships with government officials, industry and business associations, NGOs and other key political stakeholders to anticipate risks and opportunities, advise on engagement strategies, support Nike Mexico growth and strategy, and advocate on behalf of Nike, always working in collaboration with other Nike functions
Primary Areas of Responsibility:
- Anticipates and tracks legislative and regulatory developments for the key focus areas mentioned above in Mexico and participates in the design and execution of the Nike Mexico strategy.
- Keeps key Geography and Global colleagues and stakeholders apprised of legislative and regulatory developments in cooperation with Nike’s global and geo GPA teams.
- Works closely and collaboratively with Geography and Global GPA and Legal teams, Comms, and other accelerating function leads and business partners to create and execute advocacy strategies.
- Works with relevant leaders and teams at Nike’s World Headquarters, Geo Teams, and Key Initiatives to identify priorities and develop policy positions.
- Demonstrates subject matter competence on Nike’s priority policy issues at the regional level and for key countries in the Geography utilizing internal or external subject matter experts as needed
- Builds, influences, and successfully advances legislation and regulation through the policy process at regional level and in key countries;
- Maintains and continuously develops a network of relationships with decision makers at the highest level in Mexico and the region as well as their influencers (including NGOs and others);
- Develops relationships and integrates into industry and business associations and coalitions as needed, and works with representatives of other companies when necessary to achieve Nike objectives;
- Demonstrates ability to communicate and influence effectively policy and initiatives in different branches of government and at different level
- Demonstrates flexibility to respond to unanticipated policy challenges.
- Complies with all ethics, lobbying, and campaign laws and policies, including internal Nike policies
- Integrates effectively, when necessary and appropriate, with Nike Mexico business leadership and enabling functions to understand and further Nike’s business priorities:
- Organizes, manages, and participates in quarterly meetings with Nike representatives to key industry and business associations;
- Builds and deploys a suite of tools and systems to support the Mexico team’s operations;
- Supports the geo team’s HR planning and management, including recruitment, training, and career development;
Requirements for the Position include:
- 10 years of experience in government affairs in Mexicoand Mexico City, preferably in the consumer goods industry, representing corporations and/industry associations with proven track records of results.
- Demonstrated results in developing and implementing strategic programs involving relationship building/legislative issues/campaign experience.
- Bachelor degree required.Masters degree preferred in a relevant field, preferably in business or international relations.
- Expertise in trade, sourcing and taxation preferred.
- Government and elected leader relationships at a senior level in Mexico City.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.Applicants with additional written and spoken language skills are encouraged to apply.
