About the Job

The senior manager of revenue accounting will report to the corporate controller and will be responsible for all the operations of the revenue accounting team. In addition to leading a 10-person team based in Cambridge and Bangalore, India, this individual will also be responsible for ensuring the accurate reporting of revenue in accordance with US GAAP. This leadership role also includes overseeing complex revenue transactions, partnering with various business leaders on revenue transactions, participating in due diligence activities related to potential acquisitions, reporting monthly results to the CFO and ensuring compliance with internal controls (SOX).

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of approximately 10 revenue accountants located in Cambridge, Mass. and Bangalore, India in the monthly and quarterly revenue close process
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the revenue accounting team
  • Set revenue recognition policies and ensure the timeliness and accuracy of revenue results in accordance with US GAAP, specifically ASC 606
  • Partner with collections team to ensure adequate revenue and accounts receivable reserves
  • Lead the evaluation of revenue accounting issues related to non-routine and complex revenue transactions, conducting research to identify applicable accounting guidance and preparing position papers documenting issues, facts and conclusions
  • Propose and implement improvements to the revenue accounting process, particularly in automation of current processes
  • Partner with others in the organization, primarily division finance, deal desk, customer revenue operations, sales and IT to assist with:
  • Revenue forecasting
  • Revenue contract structures and resulting impacts on revenue recognition
  • Proposed new revenue streams and products and resulting impacts on revenue recognition
  • Implementation of new systems and processes that impact the revenue accounting team processes
  • Lead and/or assist in activities related to acquisition due diligence, such as the following:
  • Evaluating prospective acquisition targets from a revenue and receivables perspective
  • Establish fair value for acquired deferred revenue, including working with external valuation specialists
  • Integrate acquired company revenue streams into existing processes, including ensuring the correct application of US GAAP
  • Oversee and coordinate quarterly and annual audit procedures with external auditors and partner with internal audit for internal controls (SOX) compliance and testing

Basic Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in accounting with 12 years of experience; Master’s degree in accounting preferred with 8 years of experience
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, specifically ASC 606
  • 8 years of accounting experience, preferably with a focus on revenue accounting
  • 2+ years of experience in corporate accounting or finance

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA
  • 3+ years of experience with a public accounting firm, preferably with a Big 4 firm
  • Experience with multi-national companies
  • Experience in a high-tech and public company environment
  • Must be proactive, highly-organized, detail-oriented, a self-starter, able to take responsibility and maintain high quality and accuracy in reporting with specific deadlines
  • Ability to maintain and manage relationships
