We created Vox to solve a problem in the news business. We’ve spent too much time in the media burying the important under the new. We want to explain the news to people by giving them the relevant context they need, when they need it and where they already are.

Our latest editorial project to make that mission come alive will be a multi-platform, explanatory journalism project illuminating the stakes of big tech. To truly understand the news, you have to understand technology. This project will go beyond gadget hype and data fear-mongering to contextualize the benefits of this technological revolution while better explaining the risks — working directly with our audience and testing ideas out in the open.

Vox.com’s video team is looking for multi-talented video producers to help Vox create a new video series illuminating the stakes of technology . Ideal candidates will have a passion for covering tech, and demonstrated skills within visual storytelling such as fabulous reporting and script writing, and/or incredible animation.

What you’ll do:

• Work with creative team to pitch & plan stories
• Source experts and potential interviewees for stories
• Research archival footage, photos, public records, and anything else needed for stories
• Identify and set up shooting and interviewing opportunities for stories
• Edit drafts and create motion design and animation
• Thoroughly fact-check narrative assertions and visuals
• Know, or be willing to learn Adobe Premiere and After Effects if you don’t already
• Assist with studio and field shoots

What you’ll bring:

• 2+ years experience working in journalism
• A passion for deep research and fondness for archives
• Tenacity in reporting, picking up the phone and finding creative solutions
• Deep familiarity with Vox’s video approach and style
• Understanding of what makes a great video and excitement about the role of video in the future of journalism
• Creative drive to explore brand new approaches to video storytelling
• Awareness of what competitors are doing in video
