Senior Software Engineer, Core Platform

Job Description

The Core Platform team makes it easy for our internal customers to work with data at scale. We’re looking for people with experience implementing platform-as-a-service that operate on large volumes of data - some of the technologies you have utilized could include Kubernetes, Kafka, Airflow, (No)SQL databases, Bigtable, gRPC, Golang, PHP, Terraform and more! From implementing application libraries to developing product services, Core Platform’s mission is to increase the velocity of our product engineers. Some examples of current work include building a real-time dataset service in Bigtable to power search ranking, building out a change data capture pipeline utilizing Kafka and collaborating with our Database Infrastructure team on a new database abstraction layer.

About the Role

• We’re looking for engineers with experience building scalable and resilient critical path platform services. You should be customer focused, data driven, and excited about collaborating with your teammates and peers.
• Your responsibilities include:
• Developing and maintaining critical path product services
• Building tools and libraries that make it easy to take advantage of Big Data infrastructure
• Identifying opportunities to improve our architecture, operability or capabilities
• Using data to validate your hypotheses and inform your decision making

About You

• You have 5+ years building data solutions using technologies such as MySQL, Kafka, Scala/Java (building data pipelines vs frameworks), Dataflow, Dataproc, Bigtable or their equivalents
• You have production experience profiling, tracing, optimizing using Linux tools like strace, perf, tcpdump (and so on)
• You’re customer focused and always build with a user in mind
• You design for observability and don’t consider it an afterthought
• You’re a strong communicator and know how to match the message to the medium
• You’ve mentored engineers at a variety of levels throughout their career
