What you’ll be doing...

The Director, Digital Marketing is responsible for leading Tableau’s integrated paid and organic Search team globally. This role will drive strategy, investment and direct resources across the customer lifecycle to grow Tableau’s share of search intent globally. This charter supports Tableau’s larger Digital Marketing goals: enable great customer experiences and drive business growth.

The Director, Digital Marketing will constantly be thinking about the intersection between the customer needs and the customer journey, our product suite, trends in both paid and organic search, and how to best grow a high performing team that exceeds expectations across regions and languages. This role will demonstrate the ability to execute as a player and be strategic and supportive as a coach. This team works closely with the rest of the Digital Marketing team and cross-functionally across departments to spearhead efforts to improve our standing in Search, to improve business results, and enhance customers’ digital experiences.

Some of the things you will be doing include...

  • Drive an integrated paid and organic Search strategy, operating model, and delivery plans that delivers scalable global presence based on customer and business needs, inclusive of campaign and keyword optimization, content and landing page recommendations, linking strategies, etc.
  • Leadership and management of the Search team including resource management, hiring, mentorship, and performance management.
    • Set the Bar - Motivate, mentor, coach, and advocate for this team
    • Support team development and provide opportunities for growth across the team
    • Cross-functional leadership - lead by example and encourage cross-functional collaboration
  • Develop and oversee search capability and tactical execution of point-in-time campaigns and always-on workstreams.
  • Collaborate to infuse search planning workflows into the organization’s broader planning processes.
  • Subject matter expert and leader in all things search. Able to identify, represent, and act against algorithm changes, industry changes, and emerging trends.
  • Lead and support analysis to understand consumer insights and identify customer needs that inform development, categorization, and prioritization of keyword and SEO content opportunities.
  • Oversee creation, deployment and adherence of SEM and SEO best practices globally.
  • Oversight of performance analysis and reporting of search activities with internal stakeholders as part of the larger Digital Marketing team.
  • Managing the portfolio to limit risks and seize opportunities across search - SEM/SEO together.

  • Domain Expert . Capability to identify optimal content themes for specific audiences and influence content development efforts to maximize organic results, while also understanding technical SEO best practices.
  • Go Getter . Tenacious approach driving programs through to completion and continuously improving existing programs. Proven ability to deploy systematic use of quality score and business/marketing metrics to drive continuous improvements in paid search efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Data Rock Star. Demonstrated analytical expertise; collecting and interpreting the right data from a variety of platforms to make solid business recommendations.
  • Innovative . Proven ability to advance digital marketing maturity. Includes data transformation, capability building, and thought leading innovation.
  • Technically Savvy . Familiarity with best in class search industry reporting and diagnostic tools; Enterprise SEO Platforms, Crawlers, Web Analytics, A/B Multivariate testing, Ad-serving and Bid Management technologies (paid search).
  • Educated. Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or equivalent.
  • Experienced. 8-10+ years of media planning/buying experience in both brand and direct response contexts. 5-7+ years of people management experience.
