The Role The Investment Director is responsible for investment oversight of US Equity Strategies to ensure that portfolios are managed in accordance with their investment process and guidelines. This is a senior role at the ED / MD level on the US Equity team. The role is designed to represent our clients’ interests and ensure that we adhere to our fiduciary responsibilities. The role involves working closely with CIOs, portfolio managers, investment teams, Business Management, Trading, and Product Development on a wide range of investment and fiduciary issues. The role also requires working with our partners in Compliance, Independent Risk, and Legal.
The candidate will report to and work closely with the Global Head of Equities. In addition, the candidate will work with the other members of the Investment Director team in New York, London, Japan and Hong Kong.
The Responsibilities The role’s primary responsibilities are as follows:
- Manage the range of responsibilities that support investment oversight for all US Equity strategies, including planning and performing quarterly investment review s , monitoring and interpreting a wide range of risk and performance measures, maintaining an ongoing dialogue and consultative feedback with investment teams, and liaising with various corporate groups including Compliance, Legal, Risk and Product Development.
- Proactively formulate the scope, format and agenda of the Investment Director reviews, identify themes, prepare meeting materials and evaluate results of investment strategies against objectives, investment guidelines, and client expectations.
- Serve as the US Equity business’s point of contact for the US mutual fund and US commingled fund boards.
- Represent US Equity in global firm-wide and regulatory-related discussions, including the Trading Practices Oversight Committee, Fair Valuation Committee, Seed Capital Committee, Product Steering Committee, Liquidity Risk Forum, and various regulatory working groups.
- Advise the investment team on issues arising from US Equity account guidelines and regulatory rule applications.
- Work with Business Management team to address and remediate errors and guideline questions.
- Work with trading desk to address potential eligibility issues and order size limits for equity offerings (IPOs and secondaries).
- Participate in due diligence and client meetings. Report to clients on equity investment oversight.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Broad market and risk management experience in the asset management industry with a focus on equities. Practical experience in investing, risk management and/or quantitative analysis is a plus.
- A commitment to the highest standards of integrity and fiduciary responsibility and an ability and willingness to think and act independently, at times disagreeing and if necessary overruling the course of action suggested by others.
- Deep understanding of the drivers of performance for equity funds and strong risk analysis skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to simplify complex messages and concepts and to work with people at all levels and functions, including senior management and clients.
- Strong partnership skills and a willingness to listen, collaborate and employ firm-wide skillsets, resources and infrastructure.
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task across a wide range of investment strategies, vehicles and teams.
