Job Description

Who You'll Work With

You will be based in Prague, Dallas, New York or Waltham and will be a core member of the Cyber and Data Risk team. This group is responsible for helping define and improve McKinsey’s data risk programs. In your role you will help set the strategy for the firm’s Data Group, a cross-functional working team helping change the way McKinsey manages its own and its client’s data.

What You'll Do

In this role you will be tackling some of the firm’s toughest data risk challenges, from understanding the biggest risks, to designing the future of data management. Data risk is the potential for adverse impact to the firm from the misuse or inappropriate distribution of data entrusted to us by our colleagues and our clients. Managing this risk requires us to think beyond cybersecurity and system protection and include how we control the data we acquire, manipulate, share, and retain. The issues you may encounter include data privacy, information assurance, data protection, and legal risk. As an internal consultant, you’ll lead multiple projects to solve complex data risk problems and transform the way teams think about and handle data. You will get exposure to multiple aspects of data risk management, culture transformation, and stakeholder management. You will have a strong point of view on leading a program, and how to manage initiatives within it, to shape a distinctive data culture among teams. You will build strong relationships with stakeholders and teams to ensure we are supporting data innovation across the firm in a risk-managed way. You will also be a leader on the Cyber and Data Risk team, providing guidance, mentorship and support to team members.

Qualifications

  • Experience with data risk issues such as data privacy, data governance, or information assurance is required
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale a program over several years
  • Extensive experience setting strategy, prioritizing projects, staffing team members, and delivering high quality work
  • Able to orchestrate multiple workstreams simultaneously to accomplish a goal
  • Excellent integrative problem-solving skills, e.g., dealing constructively with problems that do not have clear outcomes, making sound decisions even in the absence of complete information
  • Comfortable working in an ambiguous and dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated confidence under pressure, e.g., understanding situational cues and maintaining positive attitude despite adversity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that are compelling and persuasive, e.g., negotiating skillfully in tough situations, convincing others to take action
