Job Purpose

The Nielsen account team servicing Walmart is looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst to aid in the development of custom BI solutions to drive the use of Nielsen data (scan, panel, pricing) within new applications and processes. This is your opportunity to work with world-class data assets and deliver value at a massive scale serving the world’s largest retailer.

The Business Intelligence Analyst will contribute to the overall client satisfaction, team success, and technical platform capabilities. A strong candidate will proactively approach data and processes with analytic curiosity. This candidate will work with complex datasets and transform them into user friendly frontend applications that drive insights for the end users.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with team managers to understand the scope of their current problems and plan a technical solution
  • Build adhoc solutions as well as structured, repeatable solutions and decide when each approach is called for
  • Utilize various data streams to create custom analyses via programming and BI tools
  • Create BI interfaces that enhance UX for anyone analyzing data (Tableau, Looker, MicroStrategy, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Use programming languages to manipulate, transform, and prepare data for analysis (Python, R, etc.)
  • Use relational databases to manipulate, transform, and prepare data for analysis (SQL Server, Azure, Teradata, etc.)

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of scripting: data structures, loops, events, classes, functions, and modular programming (Python experience a plus)
  • Strong understanding of SQL: nested queries, joins, temp tables, stored procs, and grouping data on the fly (T-SQL experience a plus)
  • Comfortable parsing data from various file types using a programming language (ie: delimited, JSON, XML)
  • Comfortable learning and using new programming or markup languages and quickly gaining a high level of proficiency
  • Intermediate to Expert level understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • Basic understanding of web development practices (ie: html, css, js)
  • 2-3 years' of applicable experience

Bonus Skills:

  • Extensive experience using lookML
