The organization: Analytics & Data Science

Chegg's Analytics organization is composed of data scientists, engineers, mathematicians, statisticians, and business analysts. The responsibilities of the team include:

• Data science infrastructure and modeling with a focus on machine learning, natural language processing, and personalization.
• Business unit analytics support including pricing, forecasting, sensitivity analysis, and deep-dive analysis.
• Customer-oriented functional analysis in support of marketing, customer service, risk/fraud, A/B testing, and user experience.
• Analytical support in regard to technical aspects of partnerships, mergers, and acquisitions.

The Head of Data Science will be on the cutting edge of data science, experimentation, machine learning, modeling, leveraging our data sources to propose new ideas and drive key strategic decisions. You will provide thought leadership for research in machine learning and data science to shape new products and services utilizing complex data sets to develop new ways of solving our toughest data problems. You will leverage established and novel data sources, quantitative and qualitative research, and machine learning techniques to deliver tools and insights that have a direct impact on Chegg’s growth plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead and continue to build a world class data science team.
• Develop frameworks, models, tools, and processes to ensure that data science insights can be incorporated into all key decision making.
• Ability to communicate complex results to all types of functions and levels within the organization.
• Comfort in bringing analytical tools to real business situations
• Ability to effectively prioritize and build a long-term vision

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years algorithmic engineering, data science, machine learning background
• 5+ years of experience in attracting, managing, and growing high-performing teams, including managing and developing leaders.
• Ph.D. or MSc in a relevant field (statistics, mathematics, physics) or related fields or equivalent training or experience.
• “Visionary” thought leader in Data Science
• Extensive experience and understanding of Machine Learning Techniques
• Strong track record of leveraging data analytic methods within emerging technologies or technology led businesses.
• Strong knowledge C, Mathematica, MatLab, Python, Spark, R, SAS, etc. (complete fluency in at least one).
• Familiarity with Agile Software Development
