Public Policy Associate-East China(Shanghai)

Job Description

We are now looking for a Public Policy Associate to focus on East part of China to help develop and implement Airbnb’s legislative and public policy activities for China market. The role will be based in Shanghai to engagement with various stakeholders, especially in Tourism, Commerce, Security and Housing Administrations at provincial, municipal or district levels.

As the Public Policy Associate, this person will execute policy strategies and pilot projects in East China region in order to explore collaborations with location authorities to advance Airbnb’s interests and address regulatory issues, and eventually building a wide favorable operation environment for the company.To do this role effectively he/she must be able to build trust with public authorities to help everyone understand Airbnb Community’s value proposition.

Responsibilities

• Provide sufficient support to East Region Public Policy Manager to develop and implement Airbnb’s legislative and public policy activities, including executing advocacy priorities and projects for East China.
• Develop and execute activities in relation to sharing economy and tourism. Including building and maintaining extensive network of contacts and active dialogues with regional and local administrative offices.
• Work with legislative bodies and government agencies on Airbnb’s priority issues, including crafting and negotiating language for legislation, drafting comments on administrative regulations etc.
• Develop and execute a stakeholder and community engagement strategy and maintaining relationships with associations, ally groups and coalition partners in the areas of sharing economy and tourism.
• Represent Airbnb in meetings with government officials.
• Advise Airbnb’s teams on public policy matters to guide development of products, services and policies, especially business-related concerning issues.
• Monitor legislation and regulatory matters and advise the company with respect to policy challenges.

Requirements

• 5-8 years’ experience working on policy and government issues in a relevant business, or in a political, governmental or regulatory context (a mix of public, consultancy and MNC experience is an advantage).
• Bachelor’s + in the following fields: International Relations, Public Policy, LAW, MPA, MBA and Economics.
• Fluent in both Chinese and English
• Firstclass personal, political, analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to quickly get up to speed to solve complex technical and regulatory issues
• Excellent communicator with great interpersonal and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team player in a multi-task work environment.
• Comfort with a fast-paced environment and evolving needs and requirements.
• Sense of humor and the ability to thrive in a fast moving and sometimes stressful environment.
