ABOUT THE ROLE: We're looking for an email marketing wizard to work in our San Francisco office. We need someone who is passionate about email marketing technology and an excellent executional problem solver who gets things done. You’re an exceptionally technical, analytical, strategic, and passionate marketer who wants to grow our email marketing channel. This person will be responsible for managing the team responsible for the technical operations of the B2C email marketing program by developing, executing and problem solving the complexities of our robust and mature email marketing program.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Managing a complex email program with lifecycle campaigns, batched adhoc sends, and transactional emails - all translated in 10+ languages
- Manage the data architecture in our ESP to be synchronous with our production databases, allowing us to send a completely personalized email with an experience that matches what the user will see onsite and in-app
- Ensuring that our emails perform beautifully across browsers, devices and the world
- Exploring how we can use video or interactive elements to drive higher engagement with, and conversion from our emails
- Working with a diverse and expansive set of teams to accomplish goals, including CRM, Engineering, Product, B2B, Creative, Pricing, Analytics
- Aligning pricing, recommendations, country strategies, offers and copy in all lifecycle and batched adhoc emails to match user onsite experience and align with any tests
- Analyzing metrics to determine where there is opportunity to test and improve the program performance from segmentation > opens > clicks > conversion
- Leverage internal resources and ESP to build dynamic HTML emails, modules and templates
- Perform set-up, testing and deployment of email campaigns
- Work closely with our strategic marketing and CRM teams, as well as our in-house creative services team in planning, developing and implementing marketing campaigns
- Be attentive to mobile vs. desktop activity among subscribers and make recommendations to improve campaign performance, with a strong emphasis on mobile and working towards implementing branch linking to track all forms of conversion
- Leverage Excel / SQL and internal tools and resources to measure the results of your campaigns and uncover optimization areas
- Be on top of email marketing best-practices and industry trends, bring fresh and innovative ideas to the team
- QA data points, jobs, and queries for accuracy and efficacy. Work with data and engineering teams to align data and jobs and build new where necessary
- Ensure compliance with CAN-SPAM and GDPR regulations
- Work closely with Udemy’s Product and Engineering Team to develop features that’ll support email marketing campaigns in the short term and long term

We’re excited about you because you have:
- 7+ years of marketing or technical email experience at a fast-growing and/or fast-paced company with an extensive email marketing program, preferably international in scope. 2+ years of people management
- Experience with data architecture and engineering
- Extensive experience with Responsys (preferably) and/or other large scale email service platforms such as Salesforce/ExactTarget or CheetahMail, as well as familiarity with email marketing concepts, development and implementation are required
- Solid understanding of cross-browser/platform issues, code solutions and email best practices
- Exceptional project management skills and strong attention to detail
- Proven ability to problem solve complex issues and challenges
- A passion for learning, developing and testing innovative email personalization techniques and formats
- A team-oriented mindset and the ability to work with a wide range of individuals
- Experience managing a team of technical marketers
- A strong disposition for data-driven decision making
- Ability to write SQL queries. Strong Excel skills. HTML & CSS knowledge is required. Python, or other programming experience is a big plus
- A drive to improve processes and increase operational efficiency
- A passion for online education and consumer internet products
- BA / BS degree required
- This position is not remote, this position is located in San Francisco
