Your Role and Responsibilities IBM Research – Ireland is seeking high-caliber candidates with a proven research and innovation track record in one or more of the following areas:
* System software for bare-metal and/or containers on high-end and/or SoC-based architectures
* Deployment, orchestration and optimization of high-performance data-intensive analytic workflows
* Accelerated, many-core or FPGA computing
The ideal candidate should possess deep conceptual understanding and hands-on rapid prototyping experience in one or more of the above areas. This will be assessed by: proven track record in past research/industrial involvement; recent publications in top-tier international peer-reviewed scientific research venues; technical contributions to open source projects; or generated intellectual property.
Candidates are also expected to have the ability to lead their own research agendas and successfully execute them to completion as part of a team.
As member of a leading research organization, the successful candidate will be expected to actively engage with global IBM Research Labs, IBM Business Units and scientific/academic partners in order to:
1. Develop and maintain a deep technical understanding of state of the art, product offerings and corporate strategy in her core and related areas,
2. Develop research plans, aligned with global strategy, that have the potential to significantly advance existing products or lead to the creation of innovative approaches targeting market disruption
3. Devise innovative solutions and evaluate them through the design and creation of system prototypes
4. Protect generated IP through patenting and other activities
5. Communicate the outcome and impact of her research, both internally, e.g. through demos, and externally, through publications in top-tier scientific conferences and journals.
Our team is inventing, prototyping and evaluating novel solutions for next-generation systems across hardware, system software and middleware. Within the context of this exciting mission, we are leading high-caliber projects in collaboration with global IBM Re-search Labs, Business Units and academic partners. We offer a stimulating research environment comprising cross-disciplinary expertise in a world-class research organization, access to cutting-edge experimental and product staging infrastructures and strong ties with industrial research labs and academia around the globe.
Required Professional and Technical Expertise - Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related, on topics around the areas/disciplines outlined above
- Strong academic record with publications in top peer-reviewed scientific conferences and journals
- Demonstrated ability to formulate problems derived from real-world use-cases and to ideate, build and validate successful solutions
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and showcase research outcome through experimental work, particularly through hands-on creation of real system prototypes. For example configuring large-scale server/networking/storage infrastructures; deploying research prototypes within production-grade HPC/Cloud infrastructures
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within local team
- Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written
Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise - Track record in driving formation of collaborative teams to tackle important problems which produce high impact solutions
- Ability to work successfully across multi-disciplinary world-wide teams
- Ability to apply research and technical skills across infrastructure “boundaries” (from bare-metal HPC to Cloud) and in collaboration with teams working across different pieces of the stack
- Demonstrated ability to create and drive long running research programs with proven impact on their research/business area
