The Role
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Associate Manufacturing Engineering Manager to focus on manufacturing line execution (site readiness, installation, commissioning, production launch and equipment hand-off) for state of the art manufacturing processes for one of the most complex and challenging components of the electric car - our next generation of Battery Modules. As you can imagine, Battery development is at the heart of our company, and this is an exciting opportunity to take manufacturing to the next level, as we continue the development of our future Gigafactory 3 site in Shanghai, China.
The Tesla Battery Manufacturing Engineering team is not for the faint of heart, after all, changing the world isn’t easy. It is, however, an opportunity to work along-side some of the industry’s top experts on some of the most stimulating challenges of the 21 st Century.
The Tesla Battery Manufacturing Engineering team is focus discipline-based in the categories of Design for Manufacturability, Process Development, Equipment Concept/Build, and Equipment Execution. This role will be focused on the Equipment Execution discipline.
Responsibilities
Leadership:
Production Process Development:
· Maintain ownership of production intent manufacturing processes
· Co-Develop DFMEA and PFMEA Documentation
· Develop validation criteria for custom production automation equipment
· Closely collaborate installation site on manufacturing line readiness and commissioning timelines
· Collaborate with equipment concept/build team on machine designs for manufacturing robustness
· Execute Production Automation Equipment Validation Testing
Requirements
· BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
· 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience
· Flexibility to spend multiple months in Gigafactory 3 facility
· Experience developing manufacturing processes for new and unique products
· Knowledge of DFMEA and PFMEA execution
· Experience with equipment and process validation testing
· Experience introducing new equipment and new processes into a production environment
· Experience transitioning products from machine installation to sustainable production systems
· Proficiency in mechanical assembly (tolerance analysis, adhesive bonding, mechanical pressing)
· Experience developing automated manufacturing equipment
· Experience with mechanical-electrical/mechatronic systems
· Experience with automation, motion control, PLC programming and HMI design
· Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
· Ability to communicate upwards on project status/targets to executive leadership
· Knowledgeable about production quality metrics
· Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
· Exemplary analytical ability, organization skills, and attention to detail
· Mastery of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
