TITLE: Delivery Excellence Office – Project Management Office (PMO) Lead

REPORTS TO: SAP Ariba CVO – Head of Strategy & Innovation

LOCATION: Global Home Offfice Based (Pittsburgh or Toronto preferred)

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

The PMO Lead is an internal Services teams leader responsible for ensuring that the SAP Ariba Regional DEO teams are utilizing the Cloud Implementation Approach and Methodology; ensuring project team and governance as well meeting cadences oversight sessions are conduct along with regional and global reporting. This includes coaching and mentoring our regional teams; he/she will be focused on providing leadership and guidance regional and market unit leaders on executing complex SAP Ariba, Fieldglass and Concur implementations with complete focus on customer success. Most projects will utilize SAP Activate, Agile-like and rapid prototyping methodologies. This role requires a combination of deep subject matter and industry expertise in project and program management. The ideal candidate will have had recent customer-facing experience, as well as exposure to compliance, strategy development, and supporting the license and consulting sales and bid management processes.

The PMO Lead is a strategic role responsible for ensuring that SAP Services is regarded as “the” partner of choice for our customers by leading/helping them through all phases of their journey towards SAP’s digital platform and transformation strategy. He/she must have the qualifications and business acumen to manage large scale, high risk, strategic projects that span organizational boundaries including multiple business units and service partners/vendors. They have demonstrated ability to manage complex projects or programs that require coordination of work between various parties such as: third party sub-contractors, SAP Ariba P&I (Development), Field Consulting, Global Delivery, SAP Ariba Shared Services Model.

Objective of the DEO - PMO Lead

SAP Ariba CVO is transforming to meet today’s most demanding and progressive global organizations by bringing business and IT together. This means to that our CVO teams need to be trained and held to a higher standard when delivering/implementing SAP Ariba. This person will ensure the highest possible satisfaction with our internal customers, playing an active and visible role in the transformations, acting as trusted advisor to our stakeholders as the Global PMO Lead.

Summary of Job - The successful candidate will have a global role, assigned to the SAP Ariba Delivery Excellence Office (DEO) – this role will manage the day-to-day activities across the regions.

  • Be the expert in Project Management, Activate Methodology and Delivery best practices
  • Responsible for ensuring that the DEO assigned cadences including reporting are completed at regional and global levels with high quality, within agreed SLA’s/timelines
  • Ensure consistent delivery across all regions and market units
  • Build mutual trust, collaborating closely within the team to share knowledge & to leverage complimentary skills
  • Manage, coordinate, and facilitate classroom learning and workshops in coordination with business priorities.
  • Conduct ongoing enablement needs analysis and prioritize offerings in concurrence with leadership direction
  • Foster a culture of empathy, ideation and innovation
  • Support the training needs across our regions, NA, LAC, APJ and EMEA.
  • Drives knowledge sharing across our delivery organization with a focus on Lessons Learned

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Work Experience

The ideal candidate would be a proven senior project/program manager with:

  • 10+ years of total consulting services
  • Min. 7 years in project / program management of leading diverse and matrixed teams which include P&L management of large engagements
  • Strong knowledge of the SAP and SAP Cloud offerings
  • Experience leading projects in the SAP Retail, Financial Services or SAP Cloud
  • Strategy, operations and technology consulting background with proven success in large-scale change programs and ability to position and execute complex programs
  • Strong leader at both the strategic and tactical level
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%

Business travel requirements: Regional travel and some potential Global travel.

Education

  • Required undergraduate university degree, preferably in commerce, engineering, information technologies
  • Master’s degree, preferably in finance, commerce, engineering, information technologies is desired

Professional Training & Certifications

  • Current PMP certification and /or other industry and project management certifications highly desired
  • Project Leadership Excellence (PLEX) or similar interpersonal skills course
  • SAP Solution Manager 7.2 certification for Project Managers (web assessment)
  • MS Project Orange Belt Certification
  • SAP Activate Certification
  • Agile or SCRUM certification highly preferred

Required Skills

  • International Consulting delivery experience is desired
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management to prioritize needs requests based on business requirements.
  • Proficiency in key project management knowledge areas of project integration management, scope management, time management, cost management, quality management, human resource management, communication management, risk management and procurement management.
  • Proficiency in key program management knowledge areas of Program Management Lifecycle, Benefits Management (Value Management), Program Governance, Stakeholder Management, and Integration Management
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills; the ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience; competence in clear concise and tactful communication with senior executive management, customers, peers and team members.
  • Capable of collaborating across functions, geographies, and levels to build and deliver training solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to clearly articulate technology and business messages to different audiences in English
  • Fluency in additional languages a distinct advantage
  • Capacity to continuously acquire new knowledge in an independent, proactive way
  • Analytical and solution-oriented thinking
  • Ability to work effectively in international and virtual teams

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

Engagement

  • Lead and own engagement-planning and program-planning activities
  • Oversee the delivery of multiple projects related to successful engagement or program execution.
  • Own the engagement and program plan and be responsible for delivery of its major elements including program’s business objectives, scope and solution within quality criteria, on time and budget.
  • Work with Stakeholders, Partners and Senior SAP Management to effectively manage and lead large, complex and mostly global programs to ensure successful completion and significant impact on customer business KPI.
  • Expert in program / project management skills
  • Expert with specific knowledge of SAP Ariba, SAP Fieldglass and Concur Solutions.
  • Guidance on contracts that clearly articulate engagement scope, obligations, and commercial constructs. It also includes analyzing and executing on strategic projects, building consensus among stakeholders, ensuring alignment of project tactics with corporate strategy and communicating project goals at a strategic level as well as actively identifying and developing business opportunities.
  • Oversee the services relationship, including sponsor, steering committee and program office, between customer, partner and SAP to ensure that projects / programs are delivered on-time, within budget and with the highest levels of customer satisfaction through billable consulting.

Operational

  • Acts as the primary leader providing support, feedback and execution in helping SAP Services achieve its goals.
  • Through all Delivery Engagements, serve as mentor / advisor / decision-maker to project managers for the program for issues related to corporate politics, external politics, client relation
  • Execute on the SAP Ariba and CBG strategy to drive growth, best practices and margin increase.
  • Close work with SSEM, CEE and GAD and product sales colleagues on large bids and proposals for new business
  • Strong operational rigor and delivery excellence

Financial

  • Position SAP Activate as delivery methodology for the projects/programs or portfolio of projects
  • Advisor to Services on the health of the program which includes customer satisfaction, revenue and related profit streams, Support Maintenance Safeguarding, Enterprise Support retention/Preferred Care renewal rates and adoption of “Run Simple” engagement models.
  • Oversee Regional DEO management of all contract terms, including changes in work scope, timeline, and obligations and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external stakeholders to formalize and administer contract changes.
  • Experience in management of internal and external stakeholders regarding early stage program risks and how to avoid unwanted schedule, financial, and scope deviations.

Transformational Leadership & Development

  • The PMO Lead will foster and facilitate a dynamic learning-based environment
  • Build proactive formal and informal communication/relationship with key stakeholders outside of key stakeholders – increase coverage
  • Through all Delivery Engagements, serve as mentor / advisor / decision-maker to project managers for the program for issues related to corporate politics, external politics, client relations, project quality, and project risk.
  • Oversee effective engagement oversight and reviews to influence customer success.
  • Takes responsibility from time to time as team lead and supports respective line manager(s) in people development tasks
