The Nursing Business Analyst supports nursing projects, departments and initiatives to help provide excellence in clinical care and efficient operations by measurement of current processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and tracking improvements over time. The analyst is familiar with multiple clinical and operational systems and serves as a decision support resource to Nursing and Patient Care Services. A key function of this position is to create and maintain dashboards and reports for various clinical departments as well as reliably perform data analysis, interpretation, and presentation. The analyst works well independently and is highly collaborative with both the clinical and support staff at both UWMC campuses from leadership to front line.
• Education Background
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business or mathematics required, Master’s preferred
• Licensure, Registration, Certification
None required.
• Work Experience
• 3-4 years’ work experience in healthcare business or financial analytics is required, preferably in a hospital setting. Clinical experience or extensive work supporting clinical teams preferred.
• Special Training / Skills
• Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite®: Access, Excel, Power Point, and Word. Must be proficient in use of Excel; preferred skills include macros, pivot tables, VB coding, external data connections, the Excel Analysis Tool Kit and MS Access.
• Strong knowledge of Tableau, Spotfire or other data visualization tools
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server/T-SQL/Reporting Services and SharePoint preferred.
• Knowledge of financial and business planning analytical methodologies preferred.. Ability to design, implement and maintain systems necessary to store, retrieve, analyze, and report data; skilled in graphic development and presentation
• Experience in clinical informatics, medical terminology and coding (ICD/CPT/HCPCS), and healthcare regulatory requirements preferred
• Ability to generate reports from various software programs and databases, using quantitative and qualitative data in performance measurement and improvement
• Ability to deliver effective written and oral reports and presentations
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of data and information as required
• Requires ability to plan, organize and work on multiple tasks at one time
• Requires deep concentration for a large volume of work that must be completed within a limited period of time to meet deadlines for reporting
• Teamwork, attention to detail, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Physical Abilities
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time (with occasional rest breaks), including extended use of a computer.
