The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.
The Business Analyst - Clinical Business Operations/Project Manager (“Analyst”) provides operational support and project management within and across the Division of Clinical Operations to support the Directors of Clinical Operations to achieve the organization’s strategic goals. A primary strategic goal that this position will initially support is to reduce the length of time for oncology clinical trials to be made available for patient enrollment and treatment while ensuring the highest level of patient safety, clinical trial protocol compliance and clinical billing compliance.
The scope of responsibilities includes identifying, through analysis and observation, opportunities for improvement, developing and managing metrics and analytic reports that demonstrate the impact of improvement efforts, and preparing business plans for strategic initiatives and operational improvements. Collaborates with process owners, technology owners, and stakeholders within the SCCA and at SCCA partner organizations to identify project scope, goals, deliverables, and success criteria. This may include traditional project management, project advising for operational staff and/or project coordination/administrative activities in support of a multi work stream effort.
Responsibilities
Strategic Initiatives and Operational Improvements
- Proactive analysis of operational performance across the Clinical Operations Division to align operational priorities, strategies and tactics.
- Development of business plans and/or business case reasoning which convey the operational, quality, and financial impact of processes, and resources for proposed new or improved services.
- Progress tracking of goals in collaboration with Clinical Operations and Research Integration Leadership.
- Educating, training, and coaching to raise the collective awareness of budget targets, opportunities, and performance metrics.
Liaise and Collaborate:
- Cross-functional collaboration, engagement, and optimization of operational and financial performance with Finance, Quality, IT, Business Analytics, Shared Services and across the Operations Division as well as with SCCA research partner organizations
- Diagnosis of existing challenges, identification of improvement opportunities, and planning for new services or resources across the organization.
- Integration and collaboration with partner organizations and other sites of care.
- Mitigation and escalation of cross-departmental issues as appropriate.
- Alignment with the SCCA Strategic Plan, annual goals, and continuous performance improvement to minimize redundancy and leverage synergies.
Staffing Modeling and Analysis:
- Accountability for SWOT analysis, project management, timelines, and success metrics.
- Support the design, implementation, and performance monitoring of staffing standards that deliver both quality of care and cost containment in the Clinical Operations Division.
- Support the development of action plans which enhance standard work and unified best practices in departmental staffing practices, hiring plans, staff scheduling, and the periodic evaluation and refinement of guidelines.
- Support assessment and recommendation of the management tools and functionality required to support staffing best practices.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of equivalent experience.
- Advance knowledge of Project Management methodologies and tools.
- Strong facilitation and decision-making skills.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, statistical and data-modeling skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (graphing, pivot tables, formulas)
- Ability to identify and initiate efforts to achieve objectives and promotes accountability for results in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Ability to develop broad influences through robust sets of relationships across the organizations.
- Ability to work through complex and politically challenging situations to create a collaborative team environment, to adjust to the changing needs and climate of the organization as it evolves, and to excel when working in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong communication skills; comfortable presenting information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- High levels of organizational and planning skills.
- Knowledge of data and financial analytics as applied to healthcare.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently
- Ability to innovate, develop or adopt best practices and manage through change
Preferred:
- Previous experience in healthcare setting strongly preferred
- Previous experience in oncology
- Experience with clinical research preferred with preference given to oncology clinical research and clinical trial start-up knowledge or work experience
- Appreciates the importance of understanding culture in the development, design and evaluation of programs and services
- Previous experience in systems using Toyota Production System/Lean methodology or similar CPI initiatives
