Senior Product Manager - Marketplace - Rider Intent

Product Management, Product in San Francisco, CA Apply Now

At Uber, we ignite opportunity by setting the world in motion. We take on big problems to help drivers, riders, delivery partners, and eaters get moving in more than 600 cities around the world.

We welcome people from all backgrounds who seek the opportunity to help build a future where everyone and everything can move independently. If you have the curiosity, passion, and collaborative spirit, work with us, and let’s move the world forward, together.

About the Role

Riders come to the marketplace via the Uber app with the intent to get a ride. The Rider Intent team is responsible for framing and setting contextual expectations for dynamically changing prices and ETAs, and then delivering on those expectations after a rider has pushed ‘request.’ The Rider Intent team is also responsible for innovating new ways for riders to express their intent to be matched through new products that provide different price/time tradeoffs.

What You’ll Do

    • Capture more completed trips per rider session by presenting price/time tradeoff expectations and introducing recovery mechanisms both post-request and post-match
    • Set ETA expectations for riders both before and after they request a car
    • Present realtime matching and pricing insights to mitigate session abandonment & cancellations
    • Create new time/price tradeoffs to allow us to best serve different rider needs
    • Shape the future of how we most efficiently move riders and drivers around cities
    • Connect how the logistics optimization decisions in Matching connect to Uber’s dynamic pricing decisions, ahod how those decisions impact users price/time variability
    • Deliver business impact. You will have the opportunity to have significant impact on completed trips per session through better helping riders understand why ETAs and prices are what they are
    • Collaborate with and influence other teams. You share and communicate roadmaps with external teams, understand and align team goals to collectively deliver results efficiently

What You’ll Need

  • A passion for creating user experiences that surprise, delight, maintain calm, and balance transparency with abstracting the complexity of our matching and pricing systems
  • A passion to apply technology and data to change how humanity moves
  • A minimum 5 years of product leadership experience with a track record of partnering with design to deliver exceptional user facing experiences
  • Ideally you have product experience with translating the mechanics of complex ecosystems or other marketplaces to experiences that users can understand
  • Strong ability to transform complex data and competing interests into a prioritized roadmap
  • Experience formulating and driving principled product visions and owning the narrative for that vision
  • Adventurous. This candidate needs to be comfortable with exploring unknowns and willing to take risks when necessary
  • Results-driven. Matching is a very technical team and we speak, live and breathe through results

About the Team

The Matching team, within the broader Marketplace group, builds and optimizes dispatching algorithms and new dispatching paradigms with the goal of increasing efficiency and lowering wait times & prices across all of Uber’s marketplaces. We power UberX, our core personal transit business by evolving our rider/driver matching algorithms from locally greedy to globally optimal . We optimize UberPOOL by focusing on areas like rider/rider matching, time/cost tradeoffs, and the impact of walking and waiting on price and efficiency.

Rider Pricing within the Marketplace group is responsible for algorithms and systems that determine prices for every trip on the Uber platform. Our teams leverage a diversity of machine learning and system engineering approaches to produce an optimal set of offers that are most likely to compel riders -- regardless of when they open the app, where they may be, or where they may be going -- to ride with Uber.
