Job Description
We are looking for an Event Engineer who can build and deliver an amazing quality video streaming experience for our premium event partners. The ability to understand the complete chain, all the way from camera sensor to the frames that leave our LVDS, whilst managing the relationship with our key stakeholders is vital to this role. This position requires a proven ability to deliver under pressure when millions of viewers are counting on you to keep the video flowing.
Responsibilities
- Hit the road to visit some of the biggest esports events on earth in order to support their live workflows
- Work amongst an amazingly talented and driven team of software, event and operations engineers to ensure our event partners get the best experience possible
- Work closely with our Partnerships and Esports teams to ensure we present a unified front to our users
- Go beyond advising our partners and actually build tools to preemptively solve problems
- Own and manage major broadcast issues internally to ensure resolution whilst facilitating communication to the event partner
- Manage the building of relationships with our event partners to ensure we’re championing their feedback and requirements to our engineering teams
- Own existing technical relationships with event partners to ensure that they feel we’re constantly on top of their needs and productions
- Ensure and manage a rapid response to any live issues experienced by our premium partners
- Own major broadcasters technical concerns and help drive toward solutions on their behalf
- Continuously learn about and test broadcast equipment used by major broadcasters, making sure that it works with the platform
- Support internal capacity planning teams to ensure the platform is prepped for appropriate load around events
- Try out new approaches to old problems, challenging the status quo
- Smile, go above and beyond to make sure our partners are successful
- Fluently communicate cross-team and cross-continent at Twitch
Requirements
- Experience designing live production setups
- Experience with open source video processing tools
- A deep understanding of both analog and digital video signals
- Experience using *nix distributions to encode media and handle live video content
- A passion for esports and gaming events
- Experience wrangling video using ffmpeg
- Proven ability to deliver under pressure in a live environment. Preferably TV or streaming video
- 2+ years experience as a field engineer
- Understanding and experience with real time video streaming
- Ability to travel internationally multiple times per month
- Ability to collaborate with Network, Ops, Systems and Software Engineers on improving event execution, application performance and system requirements
- Strong organization, communication and collaboration skills
Bonus Points
- 2+ years experience in a client facing environment
- Experience in event management (even better if you have esports experience)
- Software development experience in any language
