Payments and Financial Products are a key part of the Uber core experience and one of the key enablers for our growth. By collaborating with various partners across the globe, our team pushes for a perfect payments and financial product experience for our users (riders, eaters, drivers, restaurants etc), while optimizing the costs to Uber and looking for new and innovative ways to grow the value that we deliver to customers.

The team is looking for a Data science expert who can demonstrate data and analytics to help find opportunities to improve reliability and cost in our payments network -- by allowing our 75 million monthly active users to pay for Uber, and our 3 million active drivers to get paid by Uber. The applicant will focus on driving data-informed strategies and building the necessary infrastructure to scale our operations, as well as the reporting to measure the team's top goals and critical metrics.

This data science expert will work closely with Product, Data Science, Engineering, Design and Operations on dynamic, high-stakes problems. A deep analytical passion to learn and ability to execute on key business priorities is a requirement.

What you'll do:

• Define and analyze key product data sets to understand the product and user behavior
• Define significant metrics to evaluate the success of the business, team, and new features
• Explore data to find opportunities and discover product and user insights
• Build visualizations to communicate data to key decision-makers
• Tackle problems and answer data-related questions about products and users
• Present findings to product leadership and senior management to strengthen business decisions
• Hire and own an inaugural product analytics team to support our payments network and products

What you'll need:

• BA/BS/MS in Math, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields (advanced degrees are a plus) - or equivalent work experience,
• Excellent SQL skills (knowledge of Hadoop ecosystem (Hive, Presto, Spark) preferred), and experience in - or an ability to learn at least one other scripting language (Python or R preferred).
• Ability to deliver on tight timelines and move quickly with cross-functional teams to execute on decisions while maintaining attention to detail.
• Familiarity with experimentation and statistical methods.
• Ability to communicate succinctly to a non-technical audience (w/o compromising rigor).
• Ability to work in a self-guided manner.
• Superb organization and (written and verbal) interpersonal skills.
