  • Overview

    The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

    The Data and Development Department within SCCA Information Technology is responsible for designing, developing and supporting SCCA data systems and integration, for both operational and analytical purposes. Under the guidance of the Data Warehouse Manager, the BI Systems Analyst is responsible for developing BI solutions for the Enterprise Data Warehouse in the Microsoft stack of SQL tools. The role will consist of analyzing/profiling data, working on requirements, designing and modeling solutions in alignment with data warehousing best practices and creating prototypes that will be developed and integrated into the data warehouse.

    Responsibilities

    Data may be acquired and distributed in a number of different ways and will require a willingness to learn and troubleshoot multiple systems. The BI Systems Analyst will work with team members, end users, and other stakeholders to provide solutions with minimal operational disruption and high data integrity. As a member of an agile scrum team, the BI Systems Analyst will participate in daily and weekly meetings to coordinate efforts during each sprint.

    Additional responsibilities include the ability to:

    • Work with business analyst partners to understand their information needs and business requirements
    • Collaborate in the planning and design of new and existing BI solutions
    • Perform end-to-end data analysis and ensure data quality gaps are identified
    • Participate in peer review and quality assurance of tables, queries and reports
    • Communicate and resolve issues and questions during the development, testing, and roll-out of BI solutions
    • Collaboratively work with other members of the Data Warehouse team, IT and Business partners
    • Mentor team members
    • Work on multiple projects in parallel

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • 5+ years of demonstrated data warehousing & business intelligence experience including database design, relational and dimensional modeling
    • Experience translating business challenges/requirements into flexible/extensible/simple and elegant solutions
    • 3+ years of data profiling/data analysis experience
    • Ability to manage business expectations and deliver customer-focused solutions
    • Development experience with business intelligence reporting tools such as Tableau, SSRS, PowerView, etc.
    • 3+ years of SQL experience
    • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to multi-task
    • Ability to work independently and to adapt to new and changing technologies
    • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing

    Preferred:

    • Understanding of HIPAA regulations
    • Familiarity with diverse kinds of healthcare and/or clinical data
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or later
    • Experience with Cerner and/or Epic healthcare systems
    • Familiarly with the Systems/Software Development Life Cycle
    • Experience with Agile software development, preferably Scrum
