Providence is calling an Epic ECSA to Providence Health & Services in Portland, OR; Beaverton, OR; Everett, WA or Anchorage, AK.
We are seeking an Epic ECSA Application Engineer to manage, analyze and engineer the client server and delivery infrastructure for Epic applications across the enterprise. This position will be a combination of some engineering work but mostly operational work implementing and supporting the client-server systems environment for Epic client software such as Interconnect, Hyperspace, EPS, Web BLOB, Hyperspace Web, BCA, Kuiper and other Epic Windows based applications as well as assisting other Epic 3rd party applications teams with their integration into Epic as needed. Working at local, regional and enterprise levels, the candidate strives towards the common goal of application reliability, performance, standardization, automation and efficiency. This ECSA role is mostly focused on Epic servers and infrastructure than the Epic roles commonly associated with endpoints and devices.
In this position you will need the following skills and abilities:
- Has a comprehensive view of the whole of Epic Windows applications, infrastructure and the 3rd party applications that are intimately connected including, not simply with each other within Epic, but with the other infrastructure technologies that Epic relies upon. This includes Windows OS, scripting, printing, IIS, Citrix XenApp, VMware, load balancing, firewalls, networking, storage and other technologies. It also includes some Cache knowledge.
- Be able to appreciate and also contribute to a very energetic, enthusiastic and caring team with a strong positive “do it right the first time” attitude.
- Takes ownership for new problems or tackles unsolved problems, and finds solutions which result in their successful resolution. Participates in cross-functional efforts to resolve technical issues, chronic problems, and technology integration challenges, locally or throughout the enterprise. Performs methodical troubleshooting and diagnoses, and then implements solutions to assure all Epic Windows related issues are resolved.
- When possible, in areas of expertise, will lead the development of standards for the enterprise that further enhance the delivery of Epic and other applications. Work with technology and application teams to ensure Epic application and infrastructure changes are communicated to the necessary teams across the region or enterprise.
- Develops new ideas that enhance operations and then document it whether it be for other technology teams, end users or the Service Desk teams.
- Is able to set technical priorities and solve complex technical problems. Possesses knowledge of multiple systems and business applications. Evaluates vendor products for technical soundness and economic feasibility. Technically and professionally competent, up to date in his/her field; knows the job very well.
- Prepare, install, upgrade and/or distribute Epic applications on servers and clients using Kuiper and SCCM.
- Be able to manage multiple upgrades simultaneously, either individually, or coordinating with the team.

Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Information Services or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- A minimum of six (6) years total relevant IT experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience.
- Must learn and maintain a thorough understanding of current Epic developments in Epic client systems under the ECSA tier as well as other Epic 3rd party apps that interact with Epic.
- Extensive knowledge of the Windows operating systems as well as other client operating systems especially in a virtualized environment (Citrix and VMware). Fully understands system and kernel components and printing components, registry and general Windows OS performance and reliability tuning especially those unique to individual applications.
- Expertise in how applications interoperate with servers, clients and the underlying IT infrastructure and their relationship with performance and uptime, especially in a Citrix XenApp environment. Ability to review, analyze and recommend changes regarding documented standards, policies and procedures.
- Ability to comprehend software and hardware upgrades, and release notes that also includes an understanding of the ramifications of these upgrades, either good or bad. Must be able to develop goals and objectives and associated work plan with little oversight from management to schedule the successful implementation of these upgrades.
- Experience with networking concepts and how to leverage these technologies to support enterprise client systems. Familiarity with network protocols (TCP, UDP, HTTPS, FTP, SNMP, LDAP, etc) and their implications within an enterprise environment. Knowledge of IP-based networks and routing and firewall concepts.
- Ability to apply networking concepts with the goal of increasing performance and reliability. Some examples include creating Citrix Netscaler VIPs with up/down probes. Must be comfortable using tools like Procmon, Wireshark and Fiddler.
- Must have experience in automating processes using scripting technologies such as Powershell, Java Scripts and/or C . Experience using these automations for tasks such as gathering data, monitoring systems and streamlining installations.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- 5 years Epic ECSA (ECSA 101, 102 and 105).
- 3 years Citrix NetScaler.
- 5 years Citrix XenApp.
- 2 years scripting.
