Backend Engineer - Personalization

The Personalization team makes deciding what to play next easier and more enjoyable for every listener. From Blend to Discover Weekly, we’re behind some of Spotify’s most-loved features. We built them by understanding the world of music and podcasts better than anyone else. Spotify is looking for a Backend Engineer to join our team in the Personalization mission. Our team is focused on capturing editorial curation signals and cultural relevance expertise to distribute across our portfolio of personalized listening experiences. We add a human touch to the algorithms that build these personalized playlists. The team is a tight-knit group of multidisciplinary engineers that are constantly looking to deliver the most outstanding experiences to our users. In this role, you'll take ownership of small to medium-sized backend projects, contribute to the delivery of high-quality, scalable systems and work collaboratively across teams to ensure a smooth and efficient development process. You'll also have the opportunity to play a key role in crafting our coding practices and methodologies, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop and deliver robust and scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Collaborate with agile teams of Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Managers and Designers to build new product features.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code, adhering to coding best practices.
• Conduct code reviews, providing constructive feedback and encouraging a collaborative development environment.
• Participate in the improvement of our software development standards and practices.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex backend issues efficiently.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging backend technologies and best practices.
• Use real-world user feedback and metrics to iteratively improve on the experiences we deliver.

Who You Are

• You are experienced in crafting and developing backend applications in Java.
• You have a growth mindset, are curious, and are not afraid to be experimental. You share your ideas and continuously improve yourself and the team around you.
• Experience with infrastructure-related technologies basic data engineering concepts is a plus.
• You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and can communicate your ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
• You have experience and passion for mentoring and encouraging collaborative teams.

Where You'll Be

• For this role, you can be within the EST time zone with a strong preference to be in New York or Boston

The United States base range for this position is $122,716 - $175,308, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays.
