Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a Director, Direct Response Marketing & Program Management. This job reports to the National Director, Direct Response Marketing Strategy in the Direct Response department. The Director provides strategic leadership for maximizing ROI on new donor acquisition and re-solicitation campaigns, development through mail, telemarketing, and face-to-face and other channels while collaborating with the digital and mid-level programs for fully integrated campaigns; managing a $40 million annual fundraising budget. The Director collaborates with peers in the Data Strategy and Digital teams to develop sophisticated segmentation and reporting practices enabling multi-channel measurement to optimize the ROI of marketing investments. Purpose: Sets strategy and leads the team responsible for executing fundraising campaigns from the point of strategy memo and campaign segmentation grids through data selection, including the review and QC of data merges and production, connecting PPFA/PPAF Direct Response teams with outside consultants, data management services, and list, analytics and modeling vendors, etc In addition to serving as the in-house expert for optimizing success in traditional Direct Response marketing channels, the Director also leads the day to day management of our direct marketing agency and vendor partners in offline channels, including the development and administration of annual Resolicitation and Acquisition budgets. To ensure successful implementation of campaigns and business processes, the Director manages staff who provide centralized expertise and administration of all Direct Response Department RFPs, contracting, budget oversight, and reconciliation, pay order/expense tracking, and compliance with regulatory agencies. The Director heads a team of subject matter experts and collaborates with leaders of Donor Loyalty Marketing, Digital, Mid Level, Development Systems, Data Strategy, Finance, and the General Counsels’ office. In addition to managing an internal team of five who oversee the design, production, and office operations, they will also work closely with Development leadership and provide ongoing direction to Paid Professional Fundraisers and Professional Fundraising Counsel vendors. Ensuring good relations and enterprise-wide coordination with other departments within Planned Parenthood is essential. Key partner teams include those within Direct Response and the larger Development Division (e.g. Mid Level fundraising, Digital Fundraising & Supporter Engagement, Database operations, Analytics and reporting, Marketing strategy, Donor Services and Research, Philanthropic Communications) and Finance, Office of General Counsel, and InfoSec. Engagement: ● The Director will supervise 3-5 internal staff and be the point of contact for Planned Parenthood’s fundraising Agency partner. ● In addition to setting day-to-day production priorities and strategy for the Direct Response marketing team the Director coordinates campaign and program integration across channels and donor portfolios, navigating potential conflicts to ensure holistic donor-centered fundraising narratives. ● The Director will work with Development leadership and other stakeholders across the organization to drive strategies and programs to achieve fundraising goals. Works with agency partners, fundraising vendors, and internal Communications, Editorial, and various program departments to create compelling donor-centric messaging that is in line with Planned Parenthood mission, values, business rules, and ethical and legal standards. ● The Director partners closely with the Donor Services team, President Circle (mid-level), Collaborative Fundraising (Planned Parenthood Affiliates), Development Systems (database operations), Data & Analytics, and Digital Fundraising & Supporter Engagement teams. This collaboration supports the development of relevant, actionable metrics, analytics, and coherent cross-channel creative and messaging content. ● Other constituencies include other business units within Development and Planned Parenthood more broadly as well as external partners, primarily Professional Fundraising Counsel. Delivery : ● Serving as the organizational expert on traditional Direct Response marketing trends and techniques, the Director informs and shapes long-term program goals; producing campaigns to achieve Direct Response fundraising and donor inclusivity goals Develops and applies segmentation and analytics to shape strategy and identify opportunities to increase donor engagement and return on investment. ● Oversees maintenance of business agreements with multiple outside vendor partners to meet organizational requirements from RFP and contracting stages through state-by-state registration and regulatory reporting. ● Provides workflow design, management, and oversight for related marketing and business functions including budget development and monitoring, invoice processing, expense tracking, departmental communication, timely execution of campaign production, and enablement of shared project management systems and platforms. ● Skillfully navigates organizational structures that are both departmental and matrixed in order to align internal and external teams and successfully deliver on both marketing and operational goals. ● Serves as a resource to affiliate partners for best practices and provides a source of shared new donors and revenue to local affiliates through the national program service. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) ● Eight to twelve years of work experience in program management of fundraising, advocacy, or related commercial enterprise; including the development and execution of departmental budgets. ● Established track record of successful program management and marketing expertise, meeting goals and maximizing return on investment. ● Expertise working across all donor communication channels with diverse audiences. ● Professional experience that demonstrates an ability to build consensus within and among teams to advance fundraising objectives by implementing clearly articulated campaigns. ● High-level written and verbal communication skills necessary to produce memos, presentations, procedural documentation, agendas, etc. ● Proficiency with standard fundraising data, metrics, and reporting processes and the ability to provide original output. ● Proficiency in Google/Microsoft documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. ● Fluency in PPFA’s data platforms (Salesforce, EveryAction, Civis), project management software (Asana) and Mastery of business rules related to 501(c)3 & 501(c)4 tax statuses, National/State/Regional affiliated organizations, Payment Card Industry security standards, Political Action Committee, and FEC 527 compliance are desirable. TRAVEL : 10-20% $125,000 - $135,000 a year Total offer package to include generous vacation + sick leave + paid holidays, individual/family provided medical, dental and vision benefits effective day 1, life insurance, short/long term disability, paid family leave and 401k.
