About the role

The Director, Employee Relations and Workforce Compliance will partner collaboratively with other members of the People team, including People Business Partners, People Operations, DE&I, and Learning & Growth, the Safety and Security team, and the Legal team to drive consistency and compliance. In addition to bringing subject matter expertise, this role is expected to contribute broadly to influencing the overall Roku employee experience.

What you’ll be doing

Employee Relations

  • Partner with various teams (People Business Partners, Employment Legal, and Safety and Security) to resolve serious and sensitive employee relations matters
  • Lead or oversee confidential investigations of claims of harassment, discrimination, bullying, retaliation, and other policy violations, and provide guidance on outcomes and communication
  • Analyze trends related to complaints and periodically report to company leaders

Policy

  • Develop, revise, and advise on implementing company policies and processes consistent with changes in laws and regulations, best practices, and company culture
  • Advise on accommodations related to disabilities, medical conditions, and religion to drive consistency across the company
  • Provide ad hoc guidance to People Business Partners on coaching employees, disciplinary actions, and performance management to drive consistency across the company

Education

  • Design, develop, and deliver ongoing employee relations- and policy-related training to the People team and managers

Other

  • Partner with others on the People, Employment Legal, and Safety and Security teams as needed on workforce compliance and employee experience initiatives
  • Participate in and/or lead special projects as required
  • Lead and/or provide support on RFIs and RFPs for consultants/vendors in the area of Employee Relations
  • We are a scrappy team. Mindful of this, you may be asked to do important tasks outside the scope of this job description. Successful candidates are comfortable wearing numerous hats and taking on new challenges

We’re excited if you have

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in education and experience
  • 10 to 15 years of progressive responsibilities in Human Resources or Legal positions, particularly focused on employee relations and policy
  • Global work experience and expertise
  • Mastery of employment law basics, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, medical and religious accommodations, and contingent workforce management, sensitive and complex workplace investigations, and performance management best practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including high EQ, great communication skills (written and oral), and the ability to build trust and influence at all levels of an organization
  • Consultative style and approach with proven ability to develop credible relationships while maintaining appropriate confidentiality
  • Experience diffusing tension and effectively mediating conflict
  • Presentation and training design and facilitation experience
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous business situations and advising accordingly, developing creative solutions
  • Proven ability to influence decision-making; courage to make tough decisions and deliver difficult messages
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Excellent follow-through skills and the ability to anticipate and address business needs proactively
  • Strong work ethic; self-motivated with a desire to take initiative and look for ways to improve processes and create efficiencies
