We’re looking for a product designer to evolve and scale Amplitude’s design system by driving the shared components, patterns, and design thinking practices and methodologies that increase the efficiency of our designers and developers. You’ll have the opportunity to influence the product direction and visual language of Amplitude working hand-in-hand with designers, engineers, and product managers across product development to ensure they have the building blocks needed to build and improve high quality, consistent, and accessible experiences for our users.

What does this team do:

Design systems team is focused on helping our product development teams build a world-class user experience through the development and integration of components, patterns, tools, and infrastructure to enable product teams to move faster, make changes more rapidly and safely, and build to a higher standard of quality.

As a Product Designer on Design Systems, you will:

  • Guide and govern Amplitude’s design language at a systems level - own the visual and interaction design for new and existing components, abstract commonly used patterns, and document best practices and usage guidelines
  • Partner with design system engineers, discussing tradeoffs between flexibility and control and ensuring components and patterns are built to spec and account for edge cases
  • Establish a robust, usable Figma component library, building and maintaining up-to-date components and their variants
  • Work closely with product teams to ensure the Amplitude design system is supporting their current and future needs.
  • Collaborate with product designers to build and document the reusable components and patterns that serve as the building blocks for Amplitude’s workflows and analyses.
  • Influence and educate the product teams by leading design discussions and mentoring other designers on how to best leverage the system in their workflows

You'll be a great addition to the team if you:

  • You demonstrate systems thinking with a cohesive strategy toward implementing and maintaining design tokens, guidelines and principles, and component libraries.
  • You have experience working closely with engineering to build components that are atomic, composable, and reusable and/or partnering with engineering to implement high quality product experiences.
  • You’re familiar with WCAG Accessibility 2.0 Standards, and care about building components that are inclusive and accessible for all.
  • You care about the under-the-hood details that can make the difference between interfaces that are performant and accessible, versus those that merely look good.
  • You approach design collaboratively and proactively communicate to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Your portfolio demonstrates an ability to develop a well-considered, robust Figma component library and/or showcases compelling, quality design and a strong visual and interaction design skill-set.
