Job Description

OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

  • Performs independently complex in vivo research assignments in immuno-oncology
  • Contributes to experimental design and complex problem resolution within project scope
  • Analyzes data and presents to the project teams. Maintains experimental records

SCOPE

The successful candidate will contribute to study design and be responsible for independently executing in vivo experiments to support development of novel cell therapy products. The candidate will be expected to analyze the data and present it to the team and will also be accountable for ensuring the quality of the data and complying with record keeping requirements.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Independently plans, designs, executes, troubleshoots, analyzes and presents experiments to drive development of cell therapy discovery platforms and target selection
  • Establishes in vivo models and executes in vivo studies for the evaluation and investigation of cell therapies
  • Participate in the development of innovative oncology mouse models to address diverse project needs.
  • Perform standard and complex animal procedures including dosing, iv/ip/it injections, tissue necropsy, tumor inoculation, tumor measurements, imaging and small-animal survival surgeries.
  • Perform mammalian cell culture for in vivo use
  • Prepares study protocols, reports, technology transfer documentation, and regulatory documents for various studies
  • Reviews, interprets and communicates data cross-functionally in project teams
  • Understands project timelines and deliverables and plans/coordinates project work accordingly with departmental, functional and external stakeholders
  • Contributes significantly and independently to project work which may include multiple projects within functional area
  • Plans and implements resolutions to technical problems/issues
  • Represents functional area on project teams by communicating activities from designated functional area to project team
  • Assists with development of project strategy and communicates complex data/decisions within department and cross functionally as necessary
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key vendors and assists with technical aspects of vendor negotiations
  • Responsible for integrating scientific/technical efforts around cross-functional issues
  • Candidate must be familiar with IACUC protocols and guidelines

  • Acts as the recognized scientific resource on an aspect of a program
  • Demonstrates effective project engagement skills
  • Identifies, plans and executes novel scientific projects and manages the work of others in a direct or matrixed structure
  • Independently manages workload and expectations
  • Scientifically independent
  • May influence decision making within the department
  • Conducts scientific presentations to internal audiences
  • Receives high level instructions on all work, determines methods on new assignments, works closely with manager, may manage junior staff
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Continual learner who possesses a can-do attitude and growth mindset
  • Ability to multi-task and shift priorities rapidly to meet aggressive timelines

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • MS with 8+ years experience, or
  • BS with 10+ years experience
  • Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Demonstrated mastery of subject or area related to the field
  • Team player able to work well in a matrix team environment
  • Self-motivated, collaborative with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture with best practices in tissue culture is preferred
  • Proficient in use of applicable lab equipment and operations
  • Previous relevant industry experience is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
