About the role and team:

As a Photography & Contemporary Art Expert, you will be closely involved with evaluating and arranging lots submitted by our users. Using your expert knowledge and your extensive network, you will be responsible for creating attractive auctions every week. Catawiki strives to keep user transactions as transparent and fair as possible, and your expertise and experience play a large part in maintaining this standard; you know better than anyone what items are of interest to our users.

You will review lot titles, descriptions, lot pictures, and provide users with an estimated value based on this information. If you need to reject a submission, you do so in a professional and courteous manner. Your efforts result in exceptional auctions that bidders will find irresistible. We also expect you to create your own auctions by engaging with your top Artists and Sellers and by working with our Sales teams, to attract new Artists/Sellers and offer even more choice to our Buyers.You will be daily involved in the contemporary Art- primary Market operations and commercial strategies, yet your knowledge on the secondary Market, gallery management will be strongly valued, having a good understanding of the photography market.

Finally, you’ll also be working together with the Category Manager and the Marketing Department to be a Contemporary Art evangelist, within and outside of Catawiki. You will be involved in the marketing plan designed to promote the Catawiki Direct from the Artist Art department, and you will be interviewed for press articles.

What you’ll do:

  • You are an absolute Modern & Contemporary Expert specialising in contemporary art and photography, including vintage and press photography.
  • You have a good knowledge of artist management.
  • You have experience in trading related to Modern & Contemporary Art;
  • A strong network of dealers/ buyers.
  • You are a commercial individual and have a “can do” attitude
  • You are a natural team player and thrive in a diverse team environment;
  • Fluency in both English & Italian,
  • Fluent French language skills are a big plus but not essential;
  • Good computer skills (Google sheets & slides in particular);
  • Naturally, you have an extensive network of potential artists/sellers and experts in your field;
  • You have the diplomatic competence needed to act as a mediator in disputes between users;
  • You have strong negotiation skills

Who you are:

  • +10 Years of experience in trading Modern & Contemporary Art
  • You have experience in gallery and artist management
  • You have good knowledge of Photography
  • You are commercially aware of the benefits of online marketplaces to galleries and artists
  • You are flexible and adaptable to changes and willing to take up new challenges
