Why it matters: We are a newly independent business after being spun out of our parent company in August 2022. Our VP of People will play a critical role in the scaling and growth of our highly diverse culture, while optimizing the employee experience from employee attraction to employee engagement and experience.

Go deeper: In this role, you will oversee the People department and should expect the following responsibilities:

• Talent Attraction and Branding - Optimize Axios HQ branding for potential talent
• Talent Recruitment - oversee the talent acquisition team to develop a long term strategy for scalable recruitment strategies that can take us from 100 to 500 employees in a few short years, while protecting DEI
• New Hire Onboarding - align with the organization on an exceptional new hire experience that has seamless team transitions to teams
• Talent Management & Retention - partner with Executive leadership team to develop Axios HQ’s strategy to retain our talent, by creating succession plans, career mapping and professional development programs
• Employee Experience - soliciting feedback from our employees and continuously working to create a culture of candor, inclusiveness and growth
• Core HR Functions - payroll and benefits administration; employee compliance, DEI standards and best practices, and budget management, to name a few

The details: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for Axios HQ’s mission and have the following skills/experience:

• 10+ years of related experience (including but not limited to, Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management)
• Previously worked in a high-growth stage SaaS, early funding round company, and successfully led the people strategy
• SHRM or equivalent preferred
• Comfort in the startup environment and creating structure in an ever changing environment
• Critical thinking skills- we need an individual who can think creatively outside the box on how to grow the business while protecting the employee experience
• Unparalleled organizational skills- this role will have an immense amount of urgent need across all departments, therefore our ideal candidate is comfortable prioritizing, setting boundaries and executing on competing priorities
• Experience leading a remote first team and building to scale a remote first company, including the state by state laws and regulations for hiring, employee experience and employee termination/departure
• Obsession with data and analytics
• Strong passion for DEI and experience creating and nurturing an inclusive culture
