Job Description

The Manager, R&D Finance serves as a key partner in supporting the Research & Preclinical Development (R&pD) organization in financial and business planning analysis, reporting, and operations. We are looking for someone to be responsible for analyzing actuals, budgeting and forecasting of operational expenses and external collaboration activity. A key aspect of the role includes supporting strategic alliances and collaborations with R&D as well as scenario planning for Regeneron's clinical candidate programs. Your ability to develop trusted relationships with your team, business partners as well as within the broader Finance organization will be crucial to your success.

A typical day might include:

Working with the R&pD group/department heads, team members and external collaborators to develop budgets and forecasts. Pressure test and review for accuracy, load forecasts into Oracle Hyperion as needed.

Analyze actual to forecast variances monthly on for internal programs and external collaborations.

Lead external collaboration budgets: research and preclinical funding/cost-sharing and achievements. Engaging with collaborators, prepare presentations and lead joint meetings and discussions.

Scenario planning: partner with the R&pD Finance team and cross-functional partners to develop ad-hoc scenario plans for new programs (IND-enabling activities) as well existing clinical programs.

Work closely with and build strong relationships with business partners and team members (operations, strategic alliances, alliance management, finance, accounting) by meeting and interacting for business insights, planning and financial analysis.

Prepare financial reports and packages with financials, charts and other elements/visuals as needed for leadership. Prepare ad-hoc presentations for meetings with partners.

Manage direct report(s) and provide mentorship and development- hold frequent development discussions and provide exciting and stretch assignments.

Perform ad-hoc financial analysis, modeling and presentations.

This role might be for you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field and 5+ years of business experience, MBA and CPA a plus
  • Previous experience and strong understanding of the biotech/pharma industry required.
  • Previous budgeting/planning/forecasting and P&L variance analysis experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills needed to manipulate raw data and provide analysis and insights
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills – ability to translate financial information to slides, create visuals
  • Experience with Oracle Hyperion Financial Planning System strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience managing performance and developing direct report(s)
  • Communication – ability to communicate insights, ideas and data both verbally and written, including running meetings and preparing presentations for senior management and for customer groups.
  • Analytical – ability to analyze financial results and to understand how to use this information to drive projects that will impact the business.
  • Time Management – ability to set priorities and meet specific deadlines in a fast paced, ambiguous environment, ability to be proactive, flexible, accommodating, and to deal with change effectively.

  • Exhibit pro activeness, thought leadership and resourcefulness. Ability to understand complex relationships, navigate ambiguity and successfully “connect the dots” is critical for success in this role.
