Job Description

Our Growth Mindset (The Mission): Think back on your time in school and a project or experience that got you fired up, curious, and motivated to try your best. Can you remember one? If you’re like us, there are some projects we remember decades later -- those times when we were so engaged in what we were doing that we couldn’t help but learn. Seesaw is a learning platform that brings educators, students, and families together to deepen student learning. Teachers design and facilitate powerful learning experiences, students create, reflect, collaborate and make their learning visible, and families actively support and celebrate student learning. Seesaw is used by millions of K-12 students in over half the schools in the U.S. The Curriculum (Your Role): As a software engineer intern, you will be working side by side with our engineering and product team. In the 12-week internship, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of a feature, from conception to production, that impacts millions of users. Alongside product development, you will pair with an experienced engineering mentor who will be there to give you advice, and feedback and ensure your success at Seesaw. Past internship projects include: Design and ship a user-facing tool to allow teachers to print parent sign-up instructions in 12 different languages. Automate and productize the process of recruiting and training potential Seesaw Ambassadors (educators we rely on to shape the future of our product and inspire other educators). Extend our Data Infrastructure to surface a new set of product success metrics.

Subject Matter (Your Responsibilities):

    • Work closely with the product, design, and engineering team in the design, development, testing, and deployment of projects that touch students, teachers, parents, and school administrators.
    • Front-end and back-end development in Python, Javascript, or HTML/CSS.
    • Collaborate with QA to improve the quality of the code we ship by actively helping develop test cases and automated tests.

Prerequisites (The Requirements):

    • Pursuing a Computer Science degree or related technical field.
    • Projected to graduate by 2023.
    • Demonstrate the ability to think holistically beyond technical requirements.
    • Strong analytical skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills.
    • Experience developing in either Android, iOS, or web platforms.

Extracurriculars (Nice to Haves):

    • Experience developing and working with REST API services.
    • Experience with Python.
    • Experience with AWS.
    • Previous internship experience or relevant industry experience.
    • Passion for improving education. Tutoring or TA experience is a plus.
A little about us: We are well funded and have an experienced team. Work with the creators & leads of Google Calendar, Picasa, Maps, Facebook Platform, and Twitter. We care about building a diverse and inclusive team to better advocate for the needs of our incredibly diverse K-12 users. We prioritize work-life balance and actually walk the walk -- we care a lot about our work but care more about our friends and family. We encourage everyone to work at a sustainable pace and have an unlimited vacation policy that people actually use. #LI-CR1 #LI-Remote Don't let the confidence gap get in the way of applying! We'd love to hear from you.
