The purpose of the role is to work as part of a lab-based R&D team, which is responsible the development of manufacture-ready γδ T cell production processes. The primary activity of the role is the planning and execution of experiments to optimise and scale up γδ T cell manufacture processes in line with the Company’s R&D strategy and tech transfer activities.

As a scientist, the individual will work within multidisciplinary teams to design, test, integrate & implement all processes and technologies related to the γδ T cell product pipeline. Activities will include development and upscaling activities of manufacturing processes, experiments to establish optimal cell yield, quality, formulation and cell product storage conditions and integration of assays for in process control.

The individual will work independently or as part of a team to conduct, analyse, and report on experiments to a high level of quality. The individual will be expected to demonstrate initiative and drive work based on high level instructions from management. This role will involve interaction with the internal gene engineering and research teams to support development of research-designed processes and inclusion in matrix teams focused on building non-clinical and CMC strategies to further support product and process development.

The role is laboratory based.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead experiment design, execution and support of development-orientated activities.
  • Perform characterisation of γδ T cells, including cell-based and immunological assays.
  • Maintain highly organised and detailed documentation of experimental procedures and assist in establishing relevant SOPs.
  • Interface and collaborate with other functional teams in Discovery, Gene Engineering, Process Development, CRO/CMO and provide technical knowledge and support troubleshooting.
  • Support work involving external collaborations.
  • Contribute to the progression of the Company’s portfolio.
  • Conduct data analysis, generate rigorous scientific documentation including ELNs and reports and concise visual and oral presentations to communicate in cross-functional teams to peers, senior management, and other key stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in lab organisation, including managing and coordinating restocking and databases, protocol and procedure drafting and participating in activities to maintain the lab working environment.
  • Contribute to progression of the Company’s portfolio by good communication and collaboration with colleagues across the R&D team.
  • Apply understanding of γδ T cell biology to development of processes.
  • Lead the setup and maintenance of databases across projects.
  • Develop skills to support protocol generation and documentation review associated with Technology transfer activities
  • Support and supervise associate scientist and Scientist I staff with good laboratory practice and experimental design.

Education/Experience:

  • PhD degree in a scientific discipline (or equivalent), or MSc with 6+ years relevant experience, or BSc with 8+ years relevant experience
  • Practical experience of laboratory work, cell culture and cell-based functional assays.
  • Experience in process development, including scale-up and GMP-readiness of processes
  • Experience in transferring protocols across institutions is desirable

  • Enjoy working in a structured environment and willing to comply with GDT Standard Operating Procedures and Policies
  • Good IT skills including confidence with use of scientific software
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours (evening and weekends when required).
