Role Description:

BlackRock WMC’s Fixed Income team is searching for an Associate (Credit Research) to be based in Shanghai. Strong financial modelling, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin are paramount. The candidate should be capable of primary credit coverage of a defined list of issuers and work collaboratively with investment professionals across the firm.

Generalists are encouraged to apply, although expertise in privately owned enterprises (POE’s) and high yield is highly regarded.

Candidates with knowledge of, and experience in applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations are also encouraged.

Responsibilities:

• Deep fundamental credit research on a defined list of issuers. Ability to make an informed view on absolute credit risk as well as direction, momentum, and valuation. Financial models, credit analysis and trade ideas to be communicated to Portfolio Managers to inform investment decisions
• Preparing and maintaining/updating financial models with projections
• Writing credit reports
• Maintaining comparative company analysis
• Participating in conference calls, industry conferences, and discussions with management/rating agencies
• Preparing questions for management
• Participating in roadshows and updating views on new issuances
• Restructuring, event risk, capital structure, dominant/controlling shareholders, disruption
• Preparing earnings summaries
• Working on ad-hoc projects based on topical issues/trends/reforms impacting industries
• Preparing industry databases and sections of thematic reports and presentations
• Understanding credit agreements and reviewing applicable covenants

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

• Experience with both mutual fund companies and wealth management subsidiaries a strong plus
• Motivated team player and flexible in approach with ability to work independently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills - presents ideas in a clear, concise, and constructive manner and be able to communicate comprehensively in both Mandarin and English
• Strong Excel, financial modelling, and analytical skills
• MBA or equivalent qualification in Finance with superior academic record; CFA will be an added advantage
• Experience in writing credit reports
• Excellent credit skills demonstrated through prior relevant experience (4+ years) working as a research analyst
• Familiarity with financial databases like WIND, Bloomberg, Capital IQ, etc.
