We are looking for a VP of Platform Engineering to lead our horizontal teams, with a primary focus on data and relevance:

Transform our Data Platform

The primary focus of this role is massively increase the velocity at which we better understand our buyers, sellers and products and how they interact on our platform, enabling experiences that will unlock revenue.

You will deliver a data infrastructure that provides accurate and timely information to the business and allows us to rapidly release/maintain models, rapidly test and learn across all of engineering, and scale as rapidly with our business.

Being successful here is less about knowing the latest ML buzzwords and more about understanding how the right data at the right time to the right person makes all the difference, and how to operationalize ML and data analytics to support the business.

Deliver a secure, highly-available, cost-effective infrastructure

In addition, you will achieve a public-company quality information security posture, drive our cloud infrastructure and strategy, and define customer-centric availability for all of engineering.

Success involves navigating competing priorities, investing in the right tools, and creating the right safeguards and process.

Delight OfferUp employees with high-quality tools

And finally, define and execute on a strategy for developing/supporting and maintaining key internal tools for developers, NOC, Customer Service, and other internal customers.

This role can be in Bellevue, Washington or @Remote in the following states: Washington, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia.

  • Influence and Interact regularly with c-staff and the board of directors
  • Define strategies across the entire company
  • Solve large, open-ended, problems with multiple tradeoffs and competing priorities
  • Regularly influence cross functional leaders with contributions to discussions and decisions at the highest levels
  • Drive a culture of incremental delivery and innovation

  • “Think big, act fast”
  • Experience with modern data science, ML / AI concepts and how to effectively operationalize them
  • Experience with a “devops” culture
  • Shipped large scale products in an agile environment
  • Able to lead at a high level, or dive into the details as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with product management
  • Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous environments across diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to set an ambitious goal and work toward it incrementally, validating our hypotheses and delivering end user value along the way
  • Proven history of shipping/managing products in highly collaborative environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical and technical audiences across all levels of the organization
  • Good emotional intelligence
  • 15+ years of relevant work experience, including 7+ years of management experience

Helpful, but not required:

  • Experience with Information Security
  • Experience with 24x7 Operations
  • Experience at both public companies and startups
