Staff Engineer, Consumer Platform

Consumers decide what to purchase, how to purchase, and who to purchase from. By focusing on their problems and needs – the way they make decisions and the user journeys they follow – we can build faster, more trustworthy, and higher converting products for consumers and merchants alike.

Consumer Platform is a brand new team at Stripe. Our team is responsible for building a platform that powers abstractions for consumer money movement, regulatory reporting, support tooling, and consumer data privacy obligations to support multiple consumer product initiatives. You will partner with many functions at Stripe such as identity, risk, privacy, payments, with the opportunity to work on both infrastructure/platform systems, as well as produce direct user-facing business impact. We are undertaking several new efforts, where you can have an outsized impact on the architecture, implementation, and design choices behind these systems.

Stripe has not historically built consumer facing products. Doing so will require both greenfield, full stack development and horizontal integrations across existing surfaces. We’re looking for technical leaders who are invigorated by the opportunity to have a major impact on how users interact with Stripe. You must be comfortable dealing with multiple moving pieces, effective in working cross-functionally, and excited about learning new technologies and systems.

You will:

• Identify, scope and lead large technical projects that build software services and platforms for Consumer products at Stripe
• Advise Stripe leadership on key technology and product roadmap considerations
• Partner cross-functionally with many teams: Engineering, Product, Operations, Risk, Legal, etc.
• Iterate rapidly, collaborating with product and design to launch the first versions of new products or features
• Lay the foundation to support Stripe’s long-term consumer vision
• Teach and mentor both individual contributors and managers to become the next generation of leaders at Stripe. As a senior member on a new team, you will be looked to for guidance

You may be a fit for this role if you:

• Have a strong technical background, including 8+ years of experience designing and engineering large-scale systems or products
• Have served as the technical lead and defined the roadmap for complex projects spanning multiple teams and functions
• Have worked well cross-functionally and earn trust from co-workers at all levels. You are often cited as the inspiration for engineers that join your team. You care deeply about mentoring and growing engineers
